Great Result

Spurs brushed aside Besiktas with a 2-0 victory. The fact that it could easily have been 4-0 shows how well we played.

Going to Turkey was never going to be an easy game. Besiktas are in good form in the league sitting third and were on a bit of a run. For us to go there and take all three points is an excellent start to the group stage and remember the higher we finish in the group the easier the oppoistion in the next round. A draw in Germany will put us in a great position to win the group.

Overall everyone played well. Jenas did very well in the middle. He looks so much better than when he is put out wide on the right and teamed up well with Huddlestone. Zokora was knocked down with a virus and I hope he recovers for the visit of the Bingo Boys on Sunday. Murphy had a good game and Keane linked the midfield well with Berbatov but needs to improve his finishing. It was also good to see Lennon get another ten minutes and I hope he starts against the Spammers on Sunday, a game we must win not only to shut them up but to give us a welcome push up the league.

A special mention must go to Berbatov and it just goes to show what a good player he is. Although he lacks a little pace he is strong, can head the ball well, can pick a pass and score goals. Comparisions on some message boards to Raziack last week are well wide of the mark and his contributions will only get better. Now expect Jol to rotate him and bring back Mido for Sunday! I hope not.

yes yes yes !!!
ok, this was only besiktas and not an ac milan, but what a fantastic result in such an intimidating atmosphere.
probably the best performance this season and finally a striker scores a goal!
if keane had a banjo, do you think he could hit a cows backside though?!

huddlestone played with a maturity beyond his years, so easy to forget he's only 19. dawson was immense as ever. thought jenas was superb. berbatov simply class.

the big big difference was that the passion was back. we fought for every ball and never let them settle.

just hope we dont suffer a european hangover on sunday. bring on the spammers!!

Worse miss of the game:

Defoe from 3 yards in the last few minutes. Along with Keane's misses it should really have been 4 nil, not that I'm complaining but what is it with these strikers?

If they start banging em in like they should I can see us winning our group and going top 6 in the prem by december. Wishfull thinking? Let's see shall we.

Berbatov like Rasiak!!?? Never read those comments last week, that is absurd. Berba is a class act, very intelligent and is a class act as we will all c. A bit like sheringham only a lot faster! Berba and Zokora r 2 very exciting signings and have to say ekotto is improving with evry game. Great left foot and was playing some lovely passes in2 the front men 2nite. It will take us time 2 gel but we are definatley getting there. UP THE SPURS

Jenas always gives 100%.......true
He also never goes missing, gets on the end of things after strong runs and wants to win. He's not a football genius but rightly deserves to get picked every week. Even when we are not performing, he puts in. Fit as a fiddle. Not a bad combination in central midfield, Huddlestone and Jenas. Legs, skill, height, youth etc.

Murphy, Huddlestone (sounds like Hoddle's son?) Jenas and Lennon. All English midfield.

Will evryone leave JJ and MJ alone now?

Will the real Spurs fans please stand up.......

He lacks pace ! Give us a break ! The man has been injured for 2 months. Today was his first REAL game at 100 per cent. In Turkey he is known as SPEEDY GONZALEZ and certainly it's nor because he's Mexican. Wake up and smell the real gold and diamonds we've got there. Talk back to you Sunday...

The reason we look better in europe is b'cos guys like Jenas, Zokoro, King, Berbatov, Huddlestone thrive on technical battles but not the physical ones.Thats why we have problems this seasons with sides like Everton and Bolton.
We are certainly a very talented team with the array of internationals at our disposal.

But we are too one pace.In the first half we retain possession and pass around well. But never look like being able to step up a gear and hurt besiktas.

I also cannot imagined guys like Defoe and Keane being let off the hook by Ferguson with the misses they had last night.I'm talking about the hairblower treatment.

Jol I suspect is too nice a gentlemen even in the changing room. When a nice dose of tongue lashing is necessary to shake up what is one of the top 5 most talented teams in the premiership.

Still I still enjoyed watching my beloved spurs win and in some style.

11.36pm, for your info we have not been beaten in Europe for 2 years in pre-season friendlies or tournaments.

Its sad to see Defoe and Keane in a poor run of form. The whole saga about these 2 players not happy being in the 1st team is a shamble.

If they have been in Man U, there could only be one winner. The coach.
I can't imagine Alan Smith sulking b'cos he is not in the Man U first team. You have to proved yourselve when given the chance.I hate to see Keane blaming his teamates for a less than perfect pass.

The only way we can make these 2 very talented players recapture their form is a kick up their backside. We are a team wanting to catch up with the Man U's of these world and there is no time for sulking and guessing who is the Ist team player.

If Jol cannot address the issues between Defoe and Keane, we can never built the huge squad required to challenge the big 4

Re: 5.15 & 5.30 am

If you both really think that Martin Jol doesn't know how to give players a good bollocking I would say you don't know Martin Jol AT ALL.

Even as a player he was quick to bawl out his team mates. However, he's also a very good man-manager and knows exactly which players require a kick up the jacksy or an arm around the shoulder. He knows exactly what he's doing. The rest is up to the players.

We'll win this group.
"Top 6 by december"? Too right (end of december). Keep the faith. Martin's the man.

The premiership is getting tougher to compete than the UEFA cup.Honestly, Besiktas is no stronger say than Watford in my opinion. What can you say about aside with a Middlesbrough reject ?

I would be more excited about beating West Ham than the evening stroll we had in scenic Istanbul last night. The test is when the going gets tough in a premiership match how we respond.

The positives are Chimbonda, Berbatov and Ekotto look like class acts.Jenas is slowly finding his feet.We also had our rock solid central defensive partnership back.Murphy is finding his range once again and sooner than later his freekicks wiil turn into assist or goals.
Zokoro would proved a better player for spurs than carrick soon.
We now need our jokers in the pack, Keane and Defoe to find their explosive forms. With lennon playing more regularly this season, it would give us more options and pace.

Must not forget, Malbranque. He could just compliment Zokoro energetic style perfectly and rpovide us the zip missing from midfield.

Please let no one mentioned Tanio, He belongs to the long gone generations of Mendes and Davis and should be offloaded in Jan.

At last one of our strikers score, all the more happy it was our 10.9 million signing with a great goal to show signs of what kind of player he may become for us.

In the news this morning - Ledley injured again!...please God do not make him the Defender version of sicknote Anderton, he is too good a player to be out too often.

Good overall signs that the team is playing better now with all our midfielders pushing each other for competition bar Davids (finished) and Tainio (injury prone and off form, although I love the bloke).

Young Huddlestone came in and did great for Zokora who has become our midfield Dynamo. Was worried before the game, but great response from the team. A fit Lennon and Malbranque still to be added to the mix.

If we get 6 points in our next 2 Prem games like I predicted, we will be in striking distance of the Uefa places again and then anything is possible in the second half of the season...COYS!!!

STILL THINK JOL IS ON BORROWED TIME .
ONE GOOD RESULT AGAINST A DODGY BUNCH OF TURKISH NO HOPERS IS NO REASON TO GET EXCITED.

BY THE WAY... THE "APPLAUSE" THAT JOL THOUGHT WAS AIMED AT OUR BOYS WAS ACTUALLY A SLOW HANDCLAP FOR THEIR OWN TEAM,

BELIEVE IT COS I WAS THERE.

LETS JUDGE OUR PROGRESS AGAINST A PROPER TEAM . NOT THE TURKS OR EVEN THE SPAMMER NO HOPERS.

LEAGUE TABLE DOESNT LIE.

WE ARE BOTTOM 6. AINT SCORING ENOUGH AND AINT CREATING ENOUGH.

BERBY ? HE WONT HAVE HAD AN EASIER DEFENCE TO PLAY AGAINST THAN THE DODGY TURKS.

JENAS ??? YET TO PUT 2 GOOD GAMES TOGETHER IN SUCCESSION.
