Davies set for Everton
As widely reported for the last few months Spurs have agreed a fee worth "up to" £4 million for Simon Davies. Davies now needs to agree personal terms before the switch becomes permanent.
Sporting Director Frank Arnesen commented: "Simon has given this club great service but he was ready for a new challenge and we wish him all the best."
Davies has made over 150 appearances for Spurs and everyone at "The Shelf" wishes him well for the future. However I have to question the decision myself. The fee is up to £4 million, not just £4 million. If it was a set £4 million then we should be biting their hands off but it is bound to be based on appearances, goals, Everton's achievements and so on so we may not even get half of the stated figure. I also have to assume that we have a replacement in mind which is probably relegation fodder Wayne Routledge. No offense Palarse fans, but he hasn't looked too good when I have seen him this season. With Davies showing glimpses of his previous self in recent home games this decision could be a mistake.
In other news Martin Jol commented::
"Yeah, The Shelf compistishion is still on. Enter now before itsh too late".
Enter by midnight tonight. See the main page or archive for further details.

DONT QUESTION GREAT FRANK I THINK ITS A GREAT MOVE, IF U ACTUALLY SAW DAVIES THIS SEASON HE HAS LOOKED A SHADOW OF THE PLAYER HE WAS A FEW SEASONS AGO, ROUTLEDGE WOULD BE A QUALITY SIGNING AS HES YOUNG AND CAN ACTUALLY BEAT A MAN ON THE WING

I agree that Simon Davies was just getting back to near something like his best, but I noticed that he may have lost the ability to go past defenders and score goals (he scored 24 goals in 154 appearances).
Our club must have a replacement lined up, which does seem like Routledge, but if we could use the potential £4M, from the sale of Davies, towards buying Wright-Phillips then that’s a much better move in my opinion.
Wright-Phillips has establish himself, whereas Routledge has shown good (but not outstanding form, like Wright-Phillips has demonstrated) on a few occasions. We need someone who can do it more often than not (and score more than 24 goals in 154 appearances! or is that asking too much?) but it’s about time we stopped signing "might be good players". I always remember the time (a while back I know!) we signed Chris Armstrong and Arsenal signed Dennis Bergkamp. I rest my case.
Man City has I believe £50M debts, which suggest that they are living above their means. They have just released Macmanam because they can't afford to keep paying him, and because he’s been a shadow of his former self. It suggests that their ripe for us to raid them for Wright-Phillips - but the risk is that his step father Ian Wright might put him off from joining us.
Whatever we do about replacing Davies, we need some body who can do it more often than not and I not sure Routlege is the real deal. But we do like bargains!! We must stop buying on the cheap. Cheap does not get us into the top four nor top six!!!!!
I'd be interested to hear other fans views.
