Spurs Crash

Pathetic.

The overall performance was lousy - Stalteri looked worse than he did on Saturday against Villa, something I didn't think was possible. Jenas was played out of position and it showed. As soon as Lennon came on he moved central and looked much better. In other words play him in position or don't play him at all, £7 million or not.

Defoe and Keane recieved NO service at all and it is no wonder the Grimsby keeper had to save virtually nothing all game. Out of the two Keane shaved it only because he was more involved dropping deep. Brown didn't do much, nor did Carrick who is now injured, hopefully not for too long. Reid, time to go back to 1st division mate as your not up to the job.

No offence to Grimsby but Spurs should have turned them over on paper but the performance didn't show it. Lennon, King and Naybet are the only players to come out of the game with any credit.

Good luck grimsby, you more than deserved it.

COYS! I suppose.

Im sitting in a BA lounge in Bahrain waiting for a flight to London. Pathetic is all i can say. When are we going to start dominating games. Why play this way away from home. We only seem to want to play when we are behind ( i watched the Villa game). Otherwise, its "lets see if we can get a 0-0 out of this" approach. For Gods sake, lets have some faith in what we do and play with confidence and not with bloody fear.

One more thing, we are not in the "lets use a rotatation system" league yet.

Lets find our strongest team and play it.

Only half decent players tonight were lennon and Keane, maybe Jenas but he should never play on the wing

I cannot think of anything positive to say about that performance other than Lennon mixed things up a little bit when he came on and caused a few problems down the right hand side. In reality, (On paper) Spurs should have had the match sewn up by that stage. Another infamous night in the life of Tottenham Hotspur football club.

After all the hype surrounding the new signings and the potential for a great new season - Same old Spurs. I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever be anything other than below average !!

I almost travelled from hull just over the humber to watch this, awful. I agree with paxton road apart from naybet. He made a few decent blocks but caused a few of them. Brown and Davis? We need to get rid of them, they are still championship players. I think brown gave away the ball more than jenas did at villa. Supported spurs for over 14 years and this is one of the lowest points. I've had nothing but phone calls and texts from friends and family laughing at me!

Such a load of w*nk. Stalteri is no good, Kelly is twice the player, Reid tries hard enough but I would pick Ziegler over him every time, Lee is a much worse left back than the departed Edman and Jenas can't play on the right although I was encouraged to see him getting into the box once he switched to the middle. No passion at all, very similar to the N.I. v England match. I am glad the better team won tonight.

Come on! Some positives and some issues that need sorting. No target man upfront. MJ is right, need Mido or someone to couple with a rotating Defoe or Keane. Jenas looks good, give him another 2-3 matches. At least he runs with the ball. Shame we went out but a wonder goal. Team has potential and it won't be too long. Did you see Villa at home, yes they were the home side. Watch this space, we'll beat Fulham and season will bo top 4,5 or 6!!! Comments please.

Stalteri was crap. Brown gave the ball away constantly. Carrick was lost. Reid was not even championship standard! Lee was weak and nervous. Defoe has no confidence and it showed. Even the mighty robinson looked shaky !! All leads to one question - how can so many players have an off day at once? Answer: Frame of mind / spirit (call it what u want)Behind the millions of pounds, players are humans and need "lifting" OR a big kick up the backside when they're not in the right frame of mind. Jol has to be responsible for this, both in terms of his talks and selecting a team with a definitive leader.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

We have some fundemental problems with the team structure lads and we need to face up to it. The latest transfers have only made the problem worse. We are a very confused side and so is Jol.

We also have a problem with attitude. We are starting to beleive the hype and think we can win games by turning up.

Jol needs to get real. He cannot take this "soft" approach anymore. I was worried about his attitude after we "scored" away to United last season. I knew then that that would cost us a European place.

Nothing seems to anger him and its starting to reflect into the team.

His "thats life" attitude is the worst thing that could happen to Spurs.

Keane is the only "winner" we have at the moment.

It's time for the no nonsense Mr. Jol, to take a grip of his squad and become a little ruthless.
Stalteri is no better than kelly so give the kid a run.
Lee is no better than edman, so why sigh him?
Midfield balance is shot to bits Reid and Lennon have to start with Carrick/Davids or Jenas in the middle. This central midfielder playing on the right/left wing is shit.
I would drop both defoe and keane for monday and let the two big fellas have a go. Defoe is in all sorts and Keane is typical keane magical sat, an abortion tonight!

There will always be emotion after a bad result like this. But at the same time we have to face some facts here. How many players earnt their money out there tonight?
Robinson - Just
Stalteri - No
King - No
Naybet - Yes
Lee- No
Reid - No
Carrick - Just
Brown - Just
Jenas - No
Defoe - No
Keane - No
Lennon - Just

As a life long supporter of Spurs for nearly forty years, tonights game typifies why i gave up my season ticket. Over priced over paid prima donna's. The two full backs we had playing tonight have to be the worst i've seen for a long time, especially as i thought we had the best for ages in Kelly and Edman playing along side King and Dawson. We even had Pamarot, Gardner, Naybet and Zielgler as quality players to come in. I'm very very baffled....and as for Andy Reid?....Please give us nother Galvin or Waddle....please.

Jol needs to read the riot act.

The "arm around Defoe" for missing a penalty is not the approach to be taken with our players. They would tend to think "its OK lads".

Unfortunetly, we need to be kicked up the back side for every game. Otherwise we are lethargic every game.

Why is it we can motivate ourselves for Arsenal and not for other teams.

At £60 grand a week, this is the least we should expect.

You posters slay me. You lot did nothing but slag poor old Edman and now want him back as Lee can't carry his boot bag. In the past, Mido was the target of much viterol, and now you lot can't wait for his return. Jenas was billed as a mega-signing, but he gives the ball away every time he gets it. Jol was the savior, now he's tactically inept. Sh*t, make up your minds fickle fans. You are right about Brown and Reid though, as they are not Premiership quality. Also, Kelly and Davis should have started IMO.

Stalteri looked crap sat and tonight, Reid good player but crap tonight and could be on his way back to the rola cola div. Defoe has lost it. Fuck it, lets have a reality check, that sort of result was coming and it will hopefully serve as the kick up the arse for these overpaid 'prospects'. Thankfully it came in the cup and we can put it right n the league. 6 games in beaten once by Chelscum, also taken points from Boro and L/pool, (one of the toughest starts) and were not playing well.
Maybe now we will stop believing the hype and we can come back to reality quickly.

Shameful! Stalteri was awful, did Brown realise what shirts we were playing in, Carrick believing his PR, Reid's distribution hopeless, Defoe and Keane isolated (with Defoe looking soooooooo out-of-form).
Apart from that we looked quite good.
Will we bounceback vs Fulham?
Personally i'd start with Keano and Mido up front.... must drop Reid...maybe give Lennon a start (tho his final ball was crap!)

Agree with everyone except those who think that there is going to be a backlash at Fulham......from who? Mido is just another lumbering donkey to go with the Rasiak, Reid is not even Div.2 standard but really Martin Jol must take resposibility. West Ham have a very ordinary squad of players except for Rio-Coker and Teddy but Alan Pardew has them playing attractive attacking winning football. Same with Man.City. Really the manager's ability to organise is much more important than the individual players...same goes for England.

I like Martin Jol as a person but his lack of passion, the buys that we have made and the general level of play this season and last is just not good enough. We never control a game or look like we have any idea how to score goals.

Jol has to stop talking a good game and get his team to produce it on the field. He seems to have made it difficult for himself though with his player selection....we have two good young full-backs in Kelly and Ifil (who in my opinion is better than Kelly) and both are better than Staltieri and Lee (the Dutch league must be very poor if he is the best thay have),Reid is not Premiership standard but Ziegler is and Jenas can clearly provide the central attacking mid-field role but has to replace either Davids or Carrick. Then we have Lennon and Routledge who both look good, but what use are great wingers if you never bring them into play or if you have no goalscorers in the middle, and I am afraid that Defoe has been built-up way beyond his capabilities...he doesn't see opportunities for himself and others quickly enough and on current form should not be playing. That leaves Robbie...someone said that perhaps he is a scorer of great goals rather than a great goal scorer and I think they were right.

Hope I am wrong and that we improve dramatically but I think it's the same old same old....lots of great PR and talk of restructuring and planning, but no results...bit like the Governmnet really.

As a Spurs fan of nearly 40 years I just couldn’t help but laugh at this result – thank God I didn’t travel to the match or go out to watch the game on TV.

Who the hell are we kidding with our aspirations for a top five place?

The new DF has his work cut out for him, if he truly has the last word in buying/selling players, perhaps he can see the light and will clear out the also rans from this bloated squad. We don’t have the individual talents of Chelski, and therefore don’t have the luxury of squad rotation - find a winning team combination stay with it MJ.

Keano and Defoe? One of them has to go, they can’t play together and neither wants a rotation on the bench. Sorry guys pick one and wave goodbye to the other.

P45’s for Reid, Stalteri, Brown, Davis, Bunjevcevic, Rasiak, Parmarot,;

Bring back Ziegler and buy Carlton Cole in January.

Last comment was spot on. Hardly has a player settled in than he is replaced.
Ziegler looked terrific to me so why farm him out for a season? He won't want to come back. Problem tonight was mostly attitude. I've seen it many times through the years, live and on TV. We get turned over by lesser teams. Reason:they try harder.Grimsby played with pride and fans could be proud of them.Spurs looked what they are: just a collection of overpaid individuals with no particular loyalty to the club. That's why we Need to stop buying and give home grown boys a chance. At least they would perform as if it mattered to them. Lee and the rest of the mercenaries couldn't really care less who they are playing for. THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

Martin Jol has admitted his Tottenham players got what they deserved at Grimsby in the Carling Cup on Tuesday

A last minute strike from Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala handed The Mariners a famous cup scalp and Spurs boss Jol felt the victory was entirely merited.

"We deserved it," said Jol. "All credit to them (Grimsby). They didn't do a lot in the second half but it is a big lesson for our lads."

Jol did not take the contest lightly as he fielded a raft of big names, but they failed to master a valiant Grimsby at Blundell Park and the Dutch tactician did not hide his feelings.

"If you only create three or four chances against a League Two club you don't deserve anything," added Jol.

"I think our best player was Aaron Lennon and he is 18 years old, which says it all. I'm a bit angry.

"When you are a Premiership side you have to win these games. I told them before the game it would be difficult."

Unreal. Even if he is the straightest manager in the Prem, Jol has no fire in his belly. At 0-0 at the half, he should have ripped the whole team a bunch of new a**holes. A bunch of pikers earning 60,000 quid a week, getting psyched out by a crowd of 8,800 people backing a Division Two team? I can feel the morale whirlpool sucking the team down already. Can you say bottom-half finish? The mediocrity continues.

Why is it that as Spurs supporters when we have surprise results they are always negative ones?! We never overperform but regularly underperform. Teams around us in the league (Bolton, Man City etc) regularly get better than expected results but we never seem to manage anything impressive. Do we expect too much? When was the last time we beat the scum, or Chelsea or Man Utd?! And if we have a chance the ref sees to it that we don't.

First off, congrats to Grimsby Town. Secondly, I'm astounded at some of your reactions. Yeah, there is no way in my wildest dreams I would of ever thought we would of lost to Grimsby Town, but it in no way discredits what we have done so far this year. We beat Boro, who are playing in Europe this year, and we were handling Chelsea quite well until Styles robbed us. Through the first 6 league games we've taken 2 more points than last year, and if that continues that's an added 12 points over the course of the season, surely enough to get us into Europe. Let's not start slagging everyone off left and right at the first sign of trouble after a promising start to the season. Let's get behind the team Monday and let them know they're playing for fans who'll support them through the brightest and darkest of times. Even through these dark dark clouds I see a ray of light shining through them...and I can see the source of the light being the FA Cup, as surely this will be motivation to win the Cup we all care about so much more than this one!

Come On You Spurs!!!

2. How did your Carling Cup first round tie go? (Our reserves - the ones you feel sure aren't good enough to keep us going if we have a few injuries - won away at Sheff Weds. you had you first team out at Grimsby, so you must have absolutely pulverised them, right?)

3. How's your league position? (You've played a game more than us, so - what with your being so amazingly strong this season, I'd imagine you're way ahead of us mere newboys)

4. NOW will you stop being so f*cking condescending, patronising and smirkingly superior when you have no right, whatsoever to any feelings of superiority?

Jol joined last summer as a COACH. A MANAGER is a different beast, and he has fallen into that job. Now the shortcomings are starting to show. He can't see the bigger picture when it comes to signings, formations and tactical changes during the game. Players are played out of position. New players are thrown straight in with out having earned their spot or given a chance to integrate. Right now the players are strangers to each other on the pitch. We may bounce back, but long term I don't think this issue will go away.

Jeez, Mr. West Ham fan, who was it done you wrong? Surely not your mum & dad wassit? How very ungracious of you. Isn't it enough that you had to sap what's left of our beloved Teddy to win promotion.. but you have to come here to kick us when we're down just now? Takes big balls don't it?
Then again, perhaps that is our fit punishment.. to be forced to endure the idiotic taunts of Hammer fans!

Anyways, surely Jol knows what it is he needs on the pitch and as manager (prior to Wenger's protege arriving) had the permission to add accordingly. He chose Jenas. Why, no one knows. Spurs were already full in midfield. Because he's young, talented and British? Well, the problem he's created now is becoming evident with playes like Mendes (never given a chance in my opinion) now asking out. It's one thing for Jose Mourinho to tell his players to wait their turn, it's quite another playing Michael Brown ahead of you! That said, why hasn't Huddlestone been given a chance yet? Zeigler was as good as Reid, and Edman was fine. Kelly is every bit as good as Stalteri, and Lennon has been our best player. I trust Jol, but after losing to Grimsby this is worrying me.
