Live from Bolton

No left side in a so far poor performance. Davids just cant play on that side and it will require a dramatic improvement in the second half for us to take anything from this game. COYS!

Sad truth is no creativity at all until Keano came on and tried his best as usual, unfortunately Berbatov could not put away a good ball he threaded through which would have got us back in it. This is the problem that we have failed to address from last year, apart from Keane, we have no one to make that killer pass. Carrick was not the answer for this either btw, as he sat too deep. We need someone who can play more of an advanced midfield position who does more than just frustratingly pass sidewards and backwards like davids and Jenas did all afternoon. Those 2 players by the way looked lost, Davids just does not look like ever being his former inspiring self and Jenas looked a lost nervous boy. Murphy was bought for his passing ability but obviously is not rated highly enough by the people who bought him! Lee is just too lightweight even on the right side and unfortunately Ekotto failed to live up to his hype, but it's early days for him. Today has really shown up our weaknesses and more than ever I fear we really do need those additions of a strong, reliable RB, a decent LM and now Im thinking even an attacking midfield playmaker, or at least FFS bring back Tainio who is more direct than Davids who looks only fit for the subs bench. Or play Huddlestone from the beginning who can make a decent pass too. Im not panicking as I know its early days, but with every 3 points loss our Champs League aspirations go down a notch. Clearly a few things need correcting for the next game.

Turned up with totally the wrong attitude. Some might say without one at all. They had us beat inside 14 minutes. Our midfield was lightweight and unbalanced. Jenas is a journeyman utility player not a top drawer penetrating playmaker which is what we need. Davids is past it and continues to give the ball away or get caught in posession. We desparately need a good left winger. Not convinced by downing hope the gossip's just that. We BADLY miss King. The new signings look fine but with service like that no wonder Berbs kept dropping into midfield to try to do Jenas's job during the first half. Don't THINK I blame Robinson for the 2nd goal as it was an outrageous shot with a double swerve (new ball?). But I blame Callum & Jenas for the first. Callum should have been better placed (despite being pulled back) and Jenas was ball watching right infront of Davies instead of moving towards him to put him off at the very least. This team needs BALLS! They looked as if they thought it was another friendly. Huddlestone for Jenas please, a top left winger, a better right back and King back.
Quickly!

Come on you Spurs!
Come on you Spurs!

Like to see Ghaly on the left on tuesday but I worry about a 'sven-beckham' situation with Jol & Davids.

Vinny, I thought Assou-Ekotto looked pretty good for his first premiership game. Zakora was doing a decent job too and Berbatov worries me not at all. Davids & Jenas are big problems for me but Martin hasn't phoned to hear my oppinion yet so..........?

Robbo should have seen that ball coming.

We need a balanced team which includes not playing a old arse center mid on the left and a left back at right back even though he's right footed makes sense.

We need a attaking midfielder that does not shit himself when someone comes near him like Jenass.

Splash that fucking cash!!!

Chimbonda
Downing
Boa Morte
Mido
Lucas Neil
Petrov
Rothen
Malouda

I don't care who,

we just need to take this as a wake up call.

Come on Jol sort it out!!!!!

petrov's career on encyclopedic websites show a distinctly average talent. He's up for sale now because his teams new manager wasn't at all convinced during pre season. Can someone tell me why downing is rated at 12 mil? Or why he should be rated at anything over 6 or 7? Please respond someone as I'm keen to know and I fully accept I may be wrong about him.

Yid 15, My main complaints like you were about Davids, Jenas and Lee. Granted, I suppose Ekotto did no worse than a lot of others who were off there game, there was not one decent performance in my book, we need imrovement all over the park. Even Lennon couldn't get the the better of a Manu reject Quinton Fortune and his end product today was terrible. Think you hit it on the head with a lack of spirit and guts, looks like the team are starting to believe their own hype, especially Berbie continually saying that we will beat Bolton, lets do the talking onthe pitch mate!. Bring back the spirit of last season MJ!

totally shit - outplayed, outfought, no spirit. jol for fucks sake, splash the cash - if u think downing is worth 12 million spend it, if you want chimbonda, pay 6 million.
lightweight, unbalanced and no fight.
1st game i know, but it looked like a friendly to me.
if we want to challenge the big boys, we got to spend like them.
wednesdays game cant come soon enough.

If Rui Costa was a couple of yars younger, he would have been ideal for spurs...A truly creative, composed, experienced player - a genius in many respects.
Van der Vaart is a more current possibility - why don't we try our best to get him, after letting him slip through last year?

JP Sorin for left wing may also be a good solution to provide width, service to attackers and protection to the new LB Assou-Ekotto.

Sorry about the lenght of this post chaps, but i was frustrated yesterday and need to get this off my chest.

This is how i saw it;

-We lost to an illegal goal and a long range shot to nothing that swerved and went in.

- Bolton away is NEVER an easy place to go and play, they fielded an extremely strong experienced team that competed all over the park. Once ahead so quickly by 2 goals, it was always going to be difficult against Bolton.

- The opinions expressed about the left side gap were again correct and were painfully obvious again to all bar Jol it seems. We were unbalanced again as we were all last season. We only looked better when Lennon went on the left. Why wont Jol play Routledge on the right???

- Jol absoloutely fucked up by substituting our best midfielder on the day Zokora (i think will be better than Carrick already) and letting the big name Davids play on. He was right to bring Keane on though, as we had absoloutely no penetration with Jenas in there.
-Was Defoe playing second half??? He gave up/went missing and should have been replaced with barnard to try and battle to create something andearn the right to play up front.

- Davids was as bad as i remembered him all of last season and this pre-season. This was the type of game where he should have shined as is his forte', but he didnt. He was exposed by Bolton for his lack of physical pressence and poor control and passing when pressurised.

-Why was Davenport marking Davies all the time? He was not up to it/ready yet and it should have been Dawson doing this job as he is key to thier attacking style (which is like watching the Wimbledon of old an is awful to watch). Every time the ball was floated in you felt we could concede from his knock downs and flick ons. Bad tactics by Jol and should have been spotted early on that Davies was winning this battle. He is a top player, very Physical, and our back up centre back should not have been given such a dificult assignment.

Apart from that there were some positives as the team did compete but i think we lacked cutting edge in an attacking sense in CM. Unless there were injuries why we had two holding midfielders playing and one on the bench as well, was a mystery to me as we therefore had no plan B if jenas played shit (and he did). He does not have the guile to be the playmaker against teams like Bolton.

I would have taken jenas off and had either Ghaly or Murphy on the bench to replace him to link up the play as it was here that we were woefull. I felt sorry for our forwards as they had very little to work with. When fit Tainio should start attacking CM as he has the ability to make the killer pass.

Decent effort by all three strikers (except Defoe in 2nd half). Berbatov needs service to feet, and also needs Keane up front with him next game, as when ball is in the air as he can read a flick on from Berbatov and play off the shoulder of the last man.

By the way some great saves by Robbo but he seems to concede a lot of long range goals doesnt he?! Also looked very nervous and shaky on crosses. We need King back NOW to command the penalty area!!!

No need to panic buy though, just pay the money to buy a top quality left midfielder.

That was a tough game for anyone to play and like us last season the fact that only Chelsea and Man Utd beat them at home shows how dificult that game was going to be, especially with such a bad start!

Message to Jol: Keep up the good work, but;

1) Need to buy LM or we have a balance problem or develop Routledge and play the boy with Lennon LM.

2) Dont play 'names' like Sven, play the best players to suit the job. What is Jenas role in midfield, as i am not sure that either you or he knows?

3) This may be down to injuries or other reasons that we fans are not privvy to, but from what i saw Jol must improve tactically with making decisions on who the squad should be so we have options in all the important areas to change things, and react to what is happening on the pitch and make tactical changes if the other lot and getting in amongst us!

Another thing, never thought I would say this, but prefer Stalteri at RB when Lennon is at RW as he compensates more defensively and gels more with Lennon than Lee did yesterday!

What is the point of making allusions to the effect that letting carrick go was in some way the fault of someone at our club? He wanted to play for someone else. He HAD to go. End of. We need to forget carrick and welcome Zakora to the task. If we had a half decent playmaker carricks loss wouldn't be an issue. We need to find out if Huddlestone can put his alleged passing talent to good use from the front of midfield or if Ghaly is any good there. If not, we need a playmaker as much as a left winger. Right now I'd prefer Tainio to Jenas.

I see no one has responded to my 8.49 question about downing. Point taken.
