I think Martin Jol has made some excellent aquisitions this summer. Kaboul gonna be superb, bale not sure we will see, Bent his pre season form says it all, and as for boateng i think he could quite possibly be an excellent piece of business have u seen his goal from the half way line. check these out http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=6421824

With experience, Bale will be our answer to our need for a LM. The center midfield is going to be a mystery throughout the season. Jol and staff are going to need to do a lot of hard thinking on a match by match basis as to who plays when and where. We may have better players, but can they play well as a unit for 90 minute stretches? Central defense is still a problem. What happens if Kaboul goes down? Rocha's not the answer.
Overall, I think a very good transfer window. Not great, but very good.

To bw honest, I doubt whether a left-sided midfielder will be signed. I believe that Adel T will start on the left side as he did in the South African tour. Although playing against mediocre opposition, he can be devastating. The Prince will be playing in the middle of the park towards the left hand side offering him some support and hopefully winning tackles there.

After all our transfers so far this pre-season, if we had to rate the team in 3 areas - strikers, defence and midfield my rating would be as following.

Strikers = 9.5 out of 10.
Nearly perfect, and only possibly matched by ManUtd, Chelsk and Liverpool, although even Liverpool may be out of this one compared to us (Torres could easily flop). Hell it's possible our fantastic 4 could even out perform Chelsk and Utd this season. Haven't been so excited since the signing of Klinsmaan.

Defence - 8 out of 10.
Would become a 9.5 rating if we signed Curtis Davies as back up due to Ledley's injuries and a more established left back to give Bale competition and backup, even allow him to push up and try that left midfield position we are missing. Leighton Baines would be perfect, but will not happen or our name is Chelski!

Midfield - 7.5, great competition for places and buckets of potential, but a little inexperience,inconsistency and lack of leadership brings this department down a touch. A few question marks on how the midfield will perform as a unit, and if we're honest, also lacked that little bit of steel and creativity last year. lets hope Boateng is the missing ingredient, but remember it's his first season so no guarantees there. Zokora, Jenas and Hudds all need to fulfill their potential, ESPECIALLY IN THE BIG GAMES,(ie against any of last years top 4 or against Europes big teams) and I don't just mean last minute goals against Arsenal!...they all need to dominate and compete for 94 minutes and more.Lennon is a few more great final balls away from being magic. Taarabt, should play some great games and have us licking our lips even more for the season after. Too early to place champions league qualification on his young shoulders yet though.
As much as I love Tainio, he may not cut the mustard as a top 4 midfielder, but great as a squad player backup for injuries and minor cup games. Murphy, forgedaboudit!

The team has made great progression and should now be looking to take that progressive step further into champions league territory. Overall a predicted 3rd to 6th place team finish is the most likely outcome. However 6th place and no trophies will not be good enough imo. Has to be champions league qualification or at the least 5th or 6th place and a trophy. But after all this pre-season excitement of our new signings, I for one will be a tad dissapointed if we don't finally make that champions league spot, the Arse are there for the taking...COYS YOU CAN DO IT!
