Mido flies back.

Just to contradict my previous story Mido has flown back to the UK after Egypt's game against Nigeria was postponed. He will almost certainly start up front with Keane.

That's great news because I don't rate rasiak one bit and Keane and defoe don't seem to be able to play together. I really hope we can get rid of rasiak and sign a striker with more quality so that when Mido is gone we will be able to cope well enough.

According to reports he has flown back to England, so he should be ok to play hopefully. We are a much better team with him in it.

Keane and Defoe can play together....but not the in the type of football we play at the moment,if they were to play together, the style of play had to change.
You can't play the long and high ball up the centre, with two midgets running 'round up front!!

12:14 I'm Not sure why you think Rasiak couldn't come good against Leicester. What has he done wrong? He's barely touched the pitch! Give the lad a chance before dismissing him. Jol said he's looked good in training.

Having said that, I'd still like to see another big man like Vieri, Zigic, Kuyt, or Iaquinta come into the fold. Problem is whomever it is must be willing to share the target-man role with Mido (and Rasiak).

I agree with that, because we do rely on the long ball to Mido alot which has worked well this season, but would not work well with Defoe and Keane together. So style would have to change. I do feel even though we have done so well this seaon, we don't create that many chances in games. This is the only real worry I have about the team. I can't quite put my finger on why, as we have some brilliant passers in midfield. We have been very clinical this season though which is good.

I don't mean to be too critical of Rasiak, but he has started three games I think this season and hardly did a thing in those games, where as Mido is so much more noticable in games. I hope Rasiak will prove me wrong, but I don't see him having much of a long term future at Spurs to be honest.

Well to be honest, I agree. I don't think Rasiak will stick around. He was a panic buy, and still unproven at this level. He perhaps needs more seasoning, and won't ge that at Spurs, as they push for the CL! Which is why I think MJ will try to rent an experienced front man like Vieri for the stretch drive.

Is Vieri still good these days then? I remember when he was among the worlds best but obviously a he is now 32, he probably isn't the same, but if we did get him and he makes the same impact that Davids has done this season then that would be fantastic. Is only speculation about Vieri though. Jol has said that he is not expecting much activity at the lane during this window. Would be nice to get one big name in for the second part of this very important season for us.

I think if you're MJ, you have to get a rent-a-player for the remainder of th campaign to ensure you hold onto 4th place. Like you, I have many resevations about Vieri though, and would have much preffered Larsson, but he's headed home to Sweden.

One thing in MJ's favour is that there are players (both veterans and young players) who want to play in the World Cup, and are eager and hungry to prove their worth to their respective national team coaches. Vieri is one, but there are others too, no?

I reackon we should go for Henry. I reckon he would jump at the chance to go to the bigger North London Side, hehe. Jokes aside, I think Vieri would be good. I think another quality target man is very important, just incase Mido gets injured. Rasiak just isn't the answer for me. Although we have that El Hampdiou who from what I saw in pre season looks a very good skillfull player. Think he is injure dthough.

El Hamdaoui dislocated his shoulder and won't be back until the 31st of Jan. But He ain't the answer.
With a CL spot within his grasp, Jol knows he must go get a player who is proven to score goals, as this is not the time to bed in any more youngsters. .. Problem is you don't want to upset the pay scale by over-spending on a potential prima dona like Vieri, although the player will want to prove himself b-4 the WC.

Hiya, Senior Yiddo here... Gr8 news Mido is back cos he works well with Def & Keano... but i cannot wait for Rasiak to prove his doubters wrong, i (and obviously Jol), have seen enough in his performances to warrant inclusion in the 16... he scored 2 cracking goals in the reserves, and whilst he is normally an assist player than a scorer he can do it, lets face it, how many minutes of premier football has he played, it even takes Keano 3 games to get into his flow. Anyway, as we all know, whilst he wears a lily white shirt he gets our total support! Right?

I dont think Mido is gunna be here for the Liverpool game is he? He'll have flown back by then surely? I hope Rasiak does prove his critics wrong. He hasnt looked as sharp as Mido I admit, but he is a different player. I'm still sceptical about this Vieri hype, although I reckon with the World Cup looming he would perform. Dean Ashton is our man! Him and Defoe would be excellent together I reckon. Dont ya just love transfer windows! :-P

Very disappointed. I thought we had learnt lesson from the Grimsby fiasco. Granted, we did not play as badly this evening, but once we had Leicester by the jugular, we should have finished the game off.

On tonights performance, if Kelly has handed in a transfer request as rumoured, Fulham and West Ham are welcome to him. Lee is far better.

As for Rasiak - There is not a hope in hell that he is going to come good for Spurs. We need a replacement for Mido and we need him fast !!

Gardner....Don't get me started on him. He couldn't get near De Vries all night. I was a big fan of Gardner a couple of seasons ago. England international. Let's get £2m for him and wave him on his way.

9:06 I'm sad to say you have hit it on the head. I was all for giving Rasiak a chance, and though he'd come good, but he didn't work hard and there's no excuse for that, esp since he's fighting for a place in the team! Having singled out Rasiak, the awful Kelly and Gardner -- who couldn't cope with the physical Leicester forwards -- something must also be said about the peformances of Carrick, Jenas, who were well below par. Also Jol didn't adjust when the Fox's changed formation in the first half!

true surly he could see the game was swinging in their favour he should of changed out team to suit them like take rasiack off and put defoe on not take brown off for defoe......... any suggestions for hu we cud bring in now to replace mido and to sure up the left side???

This was an absolutely woefull performence by Spurs. I didnt think our first half performence was all that, and the second was dreadfull. Why is it that only we can make crap teams and crap players look good. Cousins last year, DeVries this year. Never heard of before or after, but have their day in the sun against us.
Rasaik is awfull, we need a replacement for Mido. Gardner, equelly as bad, bring back Huddlestone now.
Kelly, Brown, and in fact pretty much everyone, bar Lennon, dawson
Staltieri, Robbo (to a lesser extent) were underpar. Carrick and jenes were invisable against Leicester no marks midfield. This was poor, poor , poor. One step forward, two steps back with Spurs always.

After a defeat like this its hard to be philosophical. Like its only our 5th loss, BUT, you really cant see The Goons, Liverpool, Man U or Chelski losing a two goal lead against Leicester. (Or Grimsby). But with us, even with our good form of late, you just Know it dont you. Was I really the only one who thought on 90 mins, the jammy bastards were gonna nick one, It was inevitable, its Spurs. The only consolation is that maybe, just maybe, Jol will realise that Rasiak is shit and not the answer for Mido. Gardner has no place at the club, and he needs to do something to make sure the season doesnt fall away, which is my biggest fear right now. The CL is not a certainty, and nor is Eufa for that matter.

Im fucking disgraced! I will now only be satisfied with a CL place. The only silverware we'll be seeing this season is the Peace Cup. This was awfull! Nothing less than a CL qualification. We have no more games apart from the Premierleague. No Carling Cup, no FA Cup, no UEFA cup. So no more excuses! 4th place at the least!!! Bastards!!

Bring on Iaquinta and Sneijder or Simão Sabrosa. Get rid of Kelly and Gardner. Bring in Nélson (Benfica right back) and a quality center-back.

Do you think the few bad performances today are a direct indication of what can happen to large squads with several players who don't play. Rasiak, Gardner and Kelly have hardly played much and were clearly lcking for pace and match fitness.

Kelly may have this excuse, But Gardner has had a run, and has been an accident waiting to happen, (City aside). RasiaK, is just not prem quality. Other teams seem to be able to rotate against inferior opposition.
Simply, our big players went missing, Carrick, Jenes, Keane. (Tainio should have started). These 3 players alone, should have been able to dictate this Game. leicester are shit, they will be shit again for the rest of the season but they have their big day against you know who/

10:04 PM, January 08, 2006

Sure Jenas scored on a Keane rebound, but he and Carrick both went missing in this one, leaving Lennon as the only threat in midfield. Carrick's crosses and supply to strikers was woeful. Wonder why? Anyway, as MJ has now said, Spurs must focus on pipping the Arse to the last CL spot. There's no more time for "he's one for the future" buys... Jol must unload the passengers and bring in some quality to get us there!! Coys!

Agree. As I said earlier. The CL is not a foregone conclusion. It would be typical of us for the Scum to pip us at the end. The Eufa is also not a cert. Bolton are in and around us there, Depending on the cup winners Eufa is only guaranteed for 5th. Tonights performence really worried me. From feeling confident after City, I now feel a bit nervous. Make no mistake now, this is a big test for Jol. Starting with Liverpool at the weekend.

They were all shit and the rest were ordinary except Lennon.
Leicester were poor but were still too good for our lot.
And why do our fans spend the whole fuckin game singing the same old garbage songs about the arse.
Do we have to show them that we are totally obsessed with them ??.

They dont give a shit about us and on tonights performnace they have got no reason to .

we now need to finish in the top 6. need euro football next season or might lose some big name players. we lost tonight because we didnt stuff a side once we were 2 up and let them back into a game. carrick was below par. kelly let us down all round tonight. i read today he wants to leave taxi for kelly!!!! why did we let edman leave good cover for left back??? Gardner did the same tonight as he did when man city did us 4 -3 a few years back. since that night his been like this. why play offside in the last secs of a game!!! they didnt the rest of it. please leave get someone in martin. Rasiak is martins worst buy. not a prem player in a millions years. with out mido what are we going to do up front in the next few games? did not win a ball in the air. no hope on the ground. i think he can just about walk as he didnt run.... let him go tomorrow. for free. should never be in a spurs shirt. so why didnt he take him off and keep brown on. come on you spurs top 6 please yid army. happy new years i'm so gutted cant sleep!!!!!

Top 6 might not be good enough mate. Only 5th gets Eufa spot depending on who wins the cups. MJ is agood manager, we can only hope that he sees what we see. That Rasiak is not a replacement for Mido and that Gardner, Brown (Bless him, he tries), are not gonna take us where we ant to go. Kelly in fairness was shit tonight but was out of position. Its all well and good having a big squad but the players we have coming in are simply not good enough. Even to beat shit like Leicester.

The Pole was at best average for derby. Never understood why we signed him. He's been average in the reserves too. Keane and defoe may not be the ideal solution, but surely anything is better than that embarrassment.

I hate picking on people but its as simple as this; If Rasiak plays for the next 4 or 5 games, I dont believe we can even challenge for 4th.

I'll happily i eat my words if he comes good though.

Please Martin, dont fuck up what has been an unbelivable season so far!!!

No-one seems to be commenting on the fact that the ref was terrible! He didnt give us loads of free kicks, and a penalty we should of had! He was letting De Vries pull everyone to the ground and was getting away with it everytime! We were unlucky as well tonight. We did play very badly though, no excusing that. I thought Dawson, Stalteri, Robinson and Lennon were the only players for us tonight. This result can have one of two affects... 1) Makes the boys more determined to get back on track against the puds, or 2) Knocks all the confidence out of them and a bad string of results loom. I really hope we see a striker and a left winger arrive this month... i will be gutted if it doesnt happen cos we're positions short for important games. And like Ive said many a time... get Huddlestone back for **** sake!

Well after sticking up for him for the last couple of weeks, Gardener played like a plank. Cheers mate. However, so did many others. None of you seemed to notice that Gardener & Kelly were playing Leicester offside perfectly for the last goal and it was Dawson who played them onside while he was covering for the out of position Stalteri. But he's our golden boy so let's all blame Gardener and kelly for everything. Kelly incidentely played exactly like a right footed player who hasn't had a game all season and was then chucked in as left back. Jenas still can't dominate. Carrick had one of his 'lightweight' games and Rasiak didn't look good enough for the first division let alone the championship. We looked like what we are, a team in development, improving fast, being flattered somewhat by the inconsistancy of others and suffering from a few injuries with no 'proper' cover. No left back, no left winger, no top midfield playmaker no top big centre forward and our captain out. Top 6 I expect. Finish 4th? Hmmmm..........

Why did we sell Edman? Lee and him would have sorted us out playing for that place. Ive stuck up for Gardener and Rasiak, hoping they will perform and prove critics wrong but to be honest, they werent the only slackers on the pitch last night. Everyone was. Firstly... why was Tainio on the bench? Why did Defoe not come on earlier in the game, and Rasiak go off. Why the hell did Lennon get taken off? He might have saved us! Even when we were apparently playing "well" we looked like we were still in bed. I'm absolutely gutted to be honest cos like most I would have loved Spurs to be the first team to win the FA cup in the new wembly (it might not be finished anyway so it might still happen.) I agree that we do need some proven talent to come and sort us out a CL spot. Vieri will obviously go to Monaco now, I cant imagine us being able to afford his wages. Bridge wont leave Chelsea, no one leaves Chelsea. If players want to leave, Russian mobsters turn them into new soil for the pitch see. :-P

7million for Ashton... we can afford that! We need Ribery, he's got grit and talent and he's ready to get into our squad. We just need to make a few more signings and I reckon we're sorted.
