Dutch Winger to Sign

According to Eduardosmartez over at From The Lane Romeo Castelen could well be joining Spurs shortly with the deal almost done and dusted. A google search should provide more info on this player but he is likened to the Dutch version of Sean Wright Phillips. This has also been mentioned by various people at COYS.

Good stuff if true but it could mean Lennon is on the way out with the home sickness rumors still around.

With thanks to Eduardosmartez for allowing me to post this tit-bit of information.

its about time we got a decent left winger.we need sumone good on that flank, the injury to routledge means that hes nowhere near as good as he used to be. And as for lennon, he can make an impact but how often does he get the chance??
we need a decent fast winger who can cross balls like downing

is just over 6 foot if my conversion of 1.85m is correct, so can provide another tall player for heading in corners (with Mido, King, Dawson etc) unless he's the one taking them! :P

also is about 13stone according to these conversions so should be able to stay strong and use his size in challenges

He exists alright and seems to have been knocking them in quite regularly over there. 5 goals in 7 games for feyenord so far this season

he generally plays as a striker though

I'm dutch and know Romeo Castelen, 22, well.
He's very very fast and operates mostly on the right wing (but in Holland wingers switch in the game so he's also versatile on the left).
Extra quality is that he can score goals and is a good partnership with other forwards Dirk Kuyt and Salomon Kalou.

I think though he's not yet a regular in the Oranjeside, Marco van Basten will use him in Germany.

i agree with white hart lad, wingers can play as strikers alot of the time and also i would love it if pedersen came tho im sure there are better wingers than the norweigen.i dont want robben, hes selfish and he'd ruin the mentality at tottenham so its good jol is looking elsewhere

you beat me to it !! check him out on sky sports - feyenoords squad page. wherever he plays, hes got 5 in 8 this season but is currently injured - hamstring. i think this could just be the dutch rumour mill but who knows. anyway, lennon plays tonight on the left i guess with jenas right and brown / carrick in the middle. if thats how they line up, it demonstrates spurs lack of depth at left midfield. bring back ziegler i say. also, id love to see barnard given a chance with mido in the africa cup and rasiak going to wolves ? defoe and keane just cannot play together.

Oops. I have too much faith in the all-knowing google. He does exist. Might be a handy stiker but not a left footer. I really don't think we can afford another left sided player that cuts inside every time ( a la Lee). Need someone who can beat his man and put in a cross. So I hope this guys got two good feet.

Good point about Zeigler. He is missed. The loan was mysterious at the time and is looking very pretty ill judged now. Call back clause anyone?

havnt seen much of this castelen apart from the friendly we had with holland early last year at villa park was it not to sure but he made ashley cole struggle all night with his extreme pace but didnt have the final product that night if i remember right.

not to sure about signing him do we actually need him ?? we have lennon and routledge on that side we dont need another player there we need a left winger! has anyone ever seen mitea play for ajax ? seems a good prospect

I would not get rid of lennon, he is one of our potential stars! But as for now i believe he will become a decent signing, but i still think tainio does a fatastic job on left. I think we should sell gardner and get another decent defender or at least recall huddlestone from loan. Any views from spurs fans Wherethehellmai63@hotmail.com

i was surprised by micheal brown tonight by his performance i thought he didnt have the qualities to be in the prem dint have the speed and dauduled (spelling) on the ball and didnt think we should keep him but now after that performance ive changed my mind ..... is it just me or does mido hobble off nearly every match with 5 minutes to go ?

we need a left winger desperatly !!! hopefully this injury will make jol cancel zieglers loan and get him back at the lane !

u cant knock gardner - played well at the start of the season when king was injured. bad game against west brom (rusty) 2 clean sheets on the spin now. all about confidence. i reckon you could put a donkey from arsescum in our team at the moment and make him look good :-)

Who would want to replace Lennon - I certainly wouldn't. He was outstanding last night and was probably our best player on the pitch. Having only paid £1m for him I think he's a bargain and as for this Romeo character being likened to SWP, I would actually suggest Lenners is more like him but 1/27th of the price!!

gardner is not quality cover for King as someone stated he was fortunate not to give penalty away twice in first 2 minutes. Naybet is however a thoughtful quality player and personally i was willing Mendes on to the pitch as he is another player who uses his brain and rarely gives the ball away

Well said but I dont think everyone is having a go. It just a case of opinons and what us spurs fans would like to see.

I think we all agree a left sided midfielder is a must for this season. I dont think we can recall Ziegler from his loan spell but I still believe we need to bu a quality player fot the left side.

Also a priority for the January transfer window is to sign Mido on a permante deal.Lets tie him down to a five year deal. In a couple of seasons could be looking at top goal scorer for the PL.

Only other postion I think we need cover is at left back. This time last season we had 3 left sided players with the transfer of the pieman in progress. Now the only natural left footer is the pieman, and he's not up to the job.

hi just wanted to say well pleased with the last 2games.We`re starting 2 jump up a gear and create some good chances as a team. Yes we need a left footed full back now! I dont think spurs will be getting anyone in this transfer window but just wait and see the quility that will want to come when we get into europe. I`d love it if the scum dont make it! As a Feyenoord and Spurs-fan (I'm Dutch) I can only say that Castelen would be a more than decent asset to Spurs-team. Ajax' Mitea however isn't that good, that's why he barely plays. Romea can play as a right winger, as a central attacking midfielder and as a left winger, but he can be used best as a right winger... He will be out of action because of his injury for about another month but nevertheless... brilliant player, there will be one problem: are Spurs prepared to meet Feyenoord's demands? I think he will cost about 5 mln. pounds!

This may sound odd, but it's just a thought. How about Keane on the left wing? He's becoming a good crosser of the ball, has good vision and often runs onto the left side of the pitch anyway.

Also that would mean that Defoe could also start and hopefully get some more confidence back.

he would be a great signing, but will will have to fork out a bit for him. they wont let him go for less the 5mil. (we should be able to afford that though.)

i think that he is a quality but because you definately wil get with with the dutch link, your squad is looking amazing and ypou should be 4th at the end of the season. Castelen looks good, form what i have seen very versitile but then again why not try defoe or some youth team players, But yeh he does look good, especially at his age
