Keane signs extension

This is a great piece of news as Robbie is one of the best strikers around and continues to prove this with every season he has played for Spurs.

I hope this will continue to show our commitment to pushing on and really looking to challenege the established top four in the Premiership.

Keane has signed on for another four years.  This means we shall have him at White Hart Lane for the best years of any footballers career and I can only see him getting better, especially if we streghten the striking department further in the summer.

It also stregthens the club's hands if it is decided by Spurs or Keane to sell in the future.  A player with one or even two years left on his contract is obviously worth less than someone with 3 or 4.

COYS!

More importantly, this suggests that Defoe will leave in the summer. This can only be good for Spurs. Defoe is a good player, but there is something missing, he doesn't have the 'x-factor' that a top striker should have. He is like a mini Ian Wright, an extremely talented "wide boy", but we need someone top drawer.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There is something you just can't put your finger on with Defoe, but it is definately missing. His lack of phyiscal presence is part of it, but there is just something missing.

what we need is a 20 goals plus striker to progress. Although i like and rate keen and am glad he has signed, he has only done this once with Wolves, this season he has 8

why are people fixated on typos in other posts. So someone misplaces a finger on the keyboard or is rushing to get a message posted. big deal. the truth is we can't resist showing other people up in public because it gives us temporary relief from our own inadequacies.

This whole 'let's sell Defoe' routine is becoming tedious.

As the Charlton game showed, Defoe IS fantastic but requires the ball played on the bloody floor as he is only 3'6". With the crappolla 'Watford of the Turnip era' long high balls to Mido, Defoe is immeadiately excluded.

I find it really difficult to see any logic in the arguement to get rid of him.

If Jol is not wise enough to repeat the arrangement of the Charlton game where Keane played a little deeper and they fed each other with balls on the floor... then he is a fool.

Lastly, I don't like the inference in the comments about Defoe's attitude. I see no such attitude, and the comparison with Ian Wright by the previous post makes me wonder just how much longer I have to wait before one of you armchair generals refer to him in true Ron Atkinson style as a " lazy, surly nigger".

Defoe re-signed for this club and he absolute class.

Mind you, what do I expect from a blog where Jackson, Davis and Brown are regarded as half decent. God help us all.

A post the other day suggested some of you "go and support Norwich". There has never been a truer word said.

Fourth spot? With fans like this we should be in the Championship.

Nope, wrong one... you've been boning my imposter's wife instead. But hey, minor detail. I'm not even married.

Defoe is the only striker we currently HAVE that can get us 20+ goals a season. He did it last year. BUT he needs it played INTO his feet, and into space behind the defence in order to do that - like against Charlton.

Mido and Keane can also play that way... and adapt well. Both are capable of 20 goals and below in my opinion. Though, if Keane really got on a hot streak... you just never can tell. He needs to work on the 'simple' finish sometimes though, rather than the fancy flick or curled effort - I'd love to see him get tap-ins and SMACK the occasional shot in from 20 yards, through a crowd.

Our midfield should score far more goals, especially Carrick. Then we wouldn't whinge about our strikers so much. A few more efforts on goal from our midfielders and we could have already been on 50 points instead of 46 - and none of these idiots would be going on about selling Defoe.
Go on then, idiots, flog him to Liverpool... watch him get 30 goals, and weep... and whinge about how we can't hang onto our best players etc....blah blah...

Im sure the random personal bant is funny for u 2 or 3 but it's boring crap for everyone else?!

10:45 got it spot on wit the Defoe comments. Why is selling Defoe a good move?! Since Sheringhams time we've been crying out for a striker and no one seems to make the grade. Defoe did JUST that, he was almost a revelation last year, but now x months on you all just bitch and moan?! Tru he hasn't really clicked this season, but it must b harder den u tink with the way the team works / bein dropped / subbed / constantly changed so give him some credit.

If it was the reverse with our strikers and he was on form rather than Keano you'd all be saying "why the fuck did we give Keane another contract blah blah blah".

Defoe is obviously quality, it's true something is lacking but when on form he's a clinical finisher and exactly the kind of player we need?! how many one on ones or quick touch/ close control scoring opportunities has Keane missed this season?!

UP THE SPURS. Need to play well 2moro!!!

Christ! It's either pompous drivel (9.50pm & 10.45pm) or unfunny prattle (half the rest of 'em).

To some extent I think Defoe's been found out and it's up to him to develop his game and prove he can move up a level but also players like him need good service as some of you have pointed out and this requires a top drawer playmaker and top drawer wingers. Jenas is the closest we have to a playmaker but he's no Gascoine or Hoddle and we only have a winger for one side and he's often not played to ensure strength in midfield against tougher opponents. Martin's doing a pretty good job of achieving a balance with what we've currently got and things can only improve with experience and further purchases. We certainly need a 20 a season striker and don't need to sell anyone to make room. Keane's extention is good news I think as he's still young and dare I say it improving. Will help financially if he eventually goes too as some of you have pointed out. I can't help feeling that the blackburn game is going to signal whether we're champions league or eufa next season. This is a very big game. We either step up or step down. And as we're at home as far as I'm concerned a draw is a step down. We need to show our bottle & class in equal measure tomorrow. I feel confident. Hope the team does.

Go on the Spurs!

Lucky.......very very lucky.

Managed to get the win today but the performance doesn't really fill me with confidence.

Saying that i'm very pleased with the result & i will take it. We're still in 4th and it's still ours to lose. Rather be in our position then the others (minus top3)

Don't expect anything out of the Chelsea game next week so we MUST win the following 2 games v Birmingham & West Brom to have any chance of staying in European contention, and after that further assessments can be made.

Good thing is the teams around us will be playing each other a bit so we must capitalise instead of dropping points & giving the chasing pack further incentives.

We haven't been out of the top 6 all season so we shouldn't have to rely on other results now, it is in our own hands.

What is crucial now is results & if we can find the sort of form we had from Oct-Dec then Europe is definitely on, whether it is CL (fingers crossed) remains to be seen.

But 1 thing is for sure i will be there and doing my best to roar the boys on at WHL & away like all the supporters have done all season & today v Blackburn.

Fucking Awesome support, can the team match it on the field.

Sure hope so

COYS!
