Routledge off plus others?

Wayne Routledge has joined Portsmouth on loan until the end of the season. Do not be surprised if this turns into a permanent deal come June time as Lennon has shown that he will be a far greater player in years to come. The fact that Palace fans were not that fused when he left said a lot at the time. He had a good pre-season and then an unfortunate injury but his come back has not exactly set the world on fire and clearly Jol rates Lennon over him to allow him a half season loan.

A good source on From the Lane is also backing up stories on Sky Sports from yesterday that Michael Brown is definitely off to Fulham but won't be eligible to play against us tomorrow. I think that we are now moving a step too far in going from having hundreds of midfield players to only just enough cover. With Tainio and Davids most likely out injured it leaves Carrick and Jenas in the middle with Lennon right and either Reid or Jackson left. The left side is just crap and needs sorting asap but it looks like we have missed the chance this window.

Another rumor doing the rounds on FTL is that Danny Murphy could be on his way over from Charlton. Why? Why? Why?!??!! The short arsed fool made us look stupid once and is lucky to get a game over at Charlton so why do we want him. Leave him to rot there.

COYS!

I must admit i'm gutted, i for one would like to have seen routledge given a chance in the next few games. Levy and Comoli better have at least 1 top class signing in place before tommorrow nights dedline or i'm sure most spurs fans will be furious.

1 of my mates who is a pompey fan and gets inside info off the physio down there told me than andy reid is also off to them tommorrow, on load with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer, this goes for Routledge too.

I would like to see a top class striker and a decent (better than reid) left winger sign on the dotted line before midnight tommorrow, my choice (realisticly) would be this feyeenoord egyptian bloke Hossam Ghaly and somebody like benni McCarthy or Boa Morte + money for brown.

Having said all this, realisticly i don't think anyone will be arriving tommorrow and selling the mendes, brown & davis will prove to be mistakes (at least 1 of them should have been kept), i really hope i'm proved wrong!

i think people fill to realise that we know have, carrick, jenas, davids, tanio, lennon, reid, brown and huddlestone for 4 midfield positions, that is fine, all the players who have left were playing for the reserves and the first team experience for routledge and Ziegler will be worthwhile, plus if injuries got bad we can simply recall them!!!

Sadly, we have purchased what I call 'Trial and error players'. I have said it all along spurs have wasted so much money on mediocre players its a Joke.I always believe if these players cant get into the Top sides then we shouldn't buy then. If we are thinking bid then buy big.We have spent over 70 million in the past 5 yrs on quantity. If the little quality we have are injured, we tend to struggle.I would rather spend big on decent players and then search around for frees and cheapos. After all most of our best players this season Carrick,Teanio,Stalteri,Davids have cost us next to nothing..

Its about time we think BIG!!!!

I think the smaller squad will benefit us in the long run, there's less temptation to rotate the team.Providing we don't get a geordie like injury crisis I can see us benefiting from a good settled team.

Huddelestone's back so that takes care of letting Brown go. The really puzzling thing is letting Ziegler go out on loan again when there is nobody sufficient to play on the left. Routledge's situation is looking ominously like that which befell Davis - long term injury and then finding you're way behind in the queue for a squad place due to other players emerging.

I'm very unhappy at thetreatment of some of our players. The signings of Davis and Routledge are shocking episodes. How poor must our scouting and planning process? We sign them, hardly play them and shuffle them off within a year! Its absolutely disgraceful. No wonder noone will sign in future.

why have we let zeigler go off on loan - not only are we short of left sided players (including left back) we let him go to one of our rivals for a european position - it dosent make any sense to me

Don't forget reto zeigler. he can play left mid aswell as left back and he should be in the first team next season. He's shit hot. COME ON YOU SPURS !

I don#t see why anyone is worrying about the backup players leaving when haven't played the all season bar those few sub appearances.
They are gone, there is money in the bank and the wages we are not paying them goes into the bank to afford big money signings in the the summer.
We have our Shirt and logo sponsorship money in the summer aswell as the usual 10m spenditure which could all add up to a big fat 30m or more payout depending on which Cup in Europe we are going for!

the players we have let go hardly if ever played for us this season, yet everyones acting liek they were our top players liek robbo, king, dawson, and davids.

get a grip people, we had the biggest squad about, of course jol would trim some players down, if we dont sign anyone(yet it will be a dissapointment) but not the nd of the world, the players we have are still good enough to finish high enough for europe!

Can't understand all this moaning that we have'nt signed anyone and that we should'nt let this player or that player go. Typical Tottenham fan mentality I suppose (yes, i am one aswell).. Davis was good when he came, we all had high hopes for him, but sometime things just don't work out - I think the portsmouth transfers were sound business, 7 mln quid for 3 squad players ! As for Routledge.. i had my reservations when he came. He's one of those that could be really good, but he's not quite ready yet, and his distribution and crossing is really hit and miss.
I do think its a shame about Brown cos he really gives his all every time he plays, but lets face it, he's not the best....might have fitted in well in the "diamond" with samways and howells!!
The point is, who gives a monkeys who leaves and who comes in as long as we maintain our league position and get into europe - even the uefa cup would be a big improvement and could be considered a succesful season.
Admittedly, a few big money signings would be exciting, but lets just back the boys that are currently doing a very good job and stop whining about who we've not signed (mostly tabloid b0llox anyway).

I don't/can't/won't believe that Jol, commoli, levy would sanction the release of these players without having some ready to come in.
Were currently in 4th and really need to push on to aim to secure that place, but with others around strengthening it seems that it's gonna be difficult. However the problem with Jan transfers are that the players who we really want are not gonna be released by their clubs halfway thru a season.
The bid for Torres shows intent, I doubt it'll happen now, but a push to secure 4th place would IMO make it happen in the summer.
Ghaly I know nothing about but it appears that he is injured atm. Murphy could be a decent back up in the run in but no more than that.

I agree with FUZZO YIDDO on 90% of the points. Good post!

Mendes had quality, worked hard and had a fairly good attitude (apart from the whinge factor) as well as 'champions' league experience. If we'd had some common sense, we might have been able to accommodate him in the right midfield slot, or put Carrick over there in a kind of Beckham role - maybe switching them over occasionally? Pamarot would have made a good Centre back, but is a very average right back - would have provided decent cover though.

Ok, Lee Barnard has now scored 14 in 8 reserve games (17 in total this season) and Mounir El Hamdaoui is fit and playing well again - GET THEM IN THE SQUAD, why not?? Barney is hot at the moment!

I was also annoyed at the Zeigler and Routledge situations, when we desperately need cover on the wings. But you need players on board who aren't going to get impatient so early. Keane got frustrated, but never asked for a transfer - and now Defoe is also waiting for his chance again.
Jol knows the type of character he wants on board I think, and that's why he's given them an opportunity to go out on loan when they ask for it. IF they are worth holding onto, they will come straight back wanting to prove themselves again - this time with more realistic expectations of how many starts they will get!!

And everybody stop PANICKING about the window, lets bring some youth through NOW. That way when the summer comes we can concentrate on 1 or 2 huge signings rather than 5 or 6 average players with 'potential' who will whinge too much and get loaned out... notice the pattern developing??

Come On Yooou Spurs...

Why let Davis go, and then bring in Murphy? Davis is twice the player Murphy is, and younger. Why treat Routledge this way, play him in unfamiliar positions and take him off after coming on? And don't let me get started on Rasiak. Better than Kanoute? I think we are seriously seeing the post-Arnesen era here, we have a worse squad now than when he left, and I fear it'll get even worse.

tbf, Murphy is a cunt and no mistake but he is creative and would play well in a team with Defoe.

I couldn't give a fuck about Routledge leaving really when Arron Lennon's over-taked SWP as the most exciting wide player in the country. Let's give Reidy a chance to play tongiht to. We all know he CAN be a good player.

Our real problem is up front where JD looks to be lacking confidence and RK is pining for Mido's return. Rasiak of course isn't fit to play for my football club ever again.

Torres...ha ha ha....as if.....

Nice one Fuzzo Yiddo, Huddlestone hasn't even had an appearance as a sub yet... if you never try them out you never know if they're good enough!
Hell he could even operate ALONGSIDE Davids, when we're playing away from home and looking to keep it tight!

I do believe in Jol's ability to judge players though, and if Zeigler and Routledge were kicking their toys out of the pram for being left out in favour of Lennon - then they deserve to be loaned out. You can't have bad vibes in the dressing room, it affects the performances.

Also I feel Bunjevcevic is being wasted. Ok he's awful at Centre half... but he's proven himself to be more than useful at left back or in a holding midfield role - why are we still paying him an international players wages if we aren't even going to name him in the squads??

Hello, left back IS a problem position for us at the moment... Bunje, help us out?

PS - why the hell DID we sell Edman? Did he actually have a BAD game for us???

We need to get Naybet back from Africa ASAP too, now Morrocco are out... back in the squad and playing, in case King needs to rest his groin problem.

Yes, it's obvious we have a few small glitches with the squad, but i'm confident we will have them all sorted!
One thing i would agree with is that, El Ham, and Barney should get there chance, i surely can't see why they're not getting it, they seem to have the passion to play for the club, so give them a run!
I know we have a gap on the left, so jol might as well play reidy, he should be able to fill it!

Torres - YES PLEASE! (i can dream, can't i?)

Look surely if El Ham & Barn are not being given a chance it's because they're not good enough. Unless you genuinely believe Jol doesn't know what he's doing or there's some sort of conspiracy going on.

Does that mean then that you think Defoe is not 'good enough' and Rasiak is a better player than him as Jol prefers to play him instead?

Or does Jol not know what he's doing there?

12:26 PM, February 01, 2006

Anonymous Anonymous said...

EL -

1. Yes a lot of people appear to not know what they're talking about.

2. This is a forum for expressing whatever views you like.

3. Barnard does deserve a chance as he's now scored 17 for the reserves which is apparently a club record at reserve level. So essentially he's better than any other striker we've thrown in from the reserves....soooo what have we got to lose in effect??

Is he less deserving of a place on the bench than Neale Fenn, Rory Allen or the great Jamie Slabber?? Come on!

6:32 PM, February 01, 2006

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually Neale Fenn never really had a proper chance, thinking back.. but he had a few games - which is more than Barney can say thus far...

So if you think Barny deserves a go why hasn't Jol given him a chance? Is Jol missing a trick which you've spotted?
