Crouch done mores the pity

Who says money can't buy you love.

The news most Spurs fans feared was confirmed tonight. A player we let go years ago for £60k is back to haunt us after costing £10 million plus something ridiculous in wages. Peter Crouch scored an amazing 16 goals in all competitions last year so is a decisively average signing to complement our already decisively average bunch of strikers. Peter Crouch is the type of striker who will fire us to the lofty position of 8th place. He is not the type of signing we need to push on and look like European challengers once again but the sort who will see us return to football of the 666 era - I look forward to the long diagonal ball from Dawson once he is fit.

In Peter's defence he will bring others into the game such as Defoe or Keane. It may well see Defoe hit 30 goals for us but you have to remember in our two seasons of finishing 5th our strikers were scoring 30 a piece in all competitions (Keane and Berbatov). Crouch managed 16 and his records for Liverpool and Southampton hardly set the world alight either. He just isn't good enough and is sadly the sign of things to come from the Dustcart and Levy.

At this stage, couldnt agree with you more. Can understand why we signed him but question the move. All the talk with Defoe and Crouch up front.. so Keane will be left on the bench jsut like last season?

Good signing. He scores goals. Crouch and Defoe a proven partnership in the premiership. We cant gamble on a foreign striker again. Crouch and Defoe (a proper little and large partnership).
Long balls.... as long as we win. does it matter!!!

u guys shouldnt just look at what he scores - look at how he compliments the other striker...do u really think bent and defoe is a better combination than crouch and defoe? answers NO...really who do u guys expect us to attract with no europe this season??
...we need to be consistent, and have a tall presence up front who can bring the ball down and lay off to defoe/keano/pav and then allow for wingers and mid to advance the attack. 'arry knows what he is doing...trust in him and stop whining...

Do you retards not remember what HR did for us this season? Give him time. We were screwed until he came. He is right when he says Crouch will add a new dimension to our strike force. He may not be a prolific goal scorer but he will cause opposition defences all sorts of problems. Are you expecting us to attract the Etoo's and Ibrahimovich's to a team who aren't even in Europe? Wake up & smell the coffee. I hate all of you whingers and whiners. Just get behind the team. COYS!

Nice one Harry! signing crouch shows a total lack of ambition, Can some one tap harry on the shoulder an tell him hes at a proper club now? we should be pushing to take 4th place off the arse! prehaps harry think were in a long ball relegation fight already? Totaly pissed what a shit signing!!!!!!

An absolutely brilliant and fantastic signing, I am so pleased he is with us ... Harry as always will forge together a team that can gel and play great football together, a team that understands and speaks English and can communicate well on the pitch. defoe was a much worse signing for me than crouch.
for all the astonishing support he has, he has no idea of off-side, is very one dimensional, slow, usually loses the ball in the last 3rd, rubbish at providing for others and holding up play.
He should be thankful for crouch, he will lay on passes for him to score - if he can hit the target and serve to maintain the myth about him being so great.
Crouch has come in to change the picture which has been the same up front for too long. Give him half the chances Defoe gets and then judge the move.

I seem to recall many a match report under 'Arry's tutorledge commending our "push and run" strategy - one even went as far as stating that Nicholson would be proud. What could be more the "Tottenham way"??

In my opinion, I can see something quite magical happening between Defoe, Crouch, Lennon, Modric and Palacios - more so if 'Arry has the balls to play Keane alongside Wilson in the middle (far out there I know but it could work).

Our only stumbling block at this moment in time is our back four but there is plenty of time left for market day.

Does anyone know if Crouch made the plane?

I have never wished to leave my comments here before as I would rather get behind the team than slag this person or that....but I feel it's time we faced the fact that Crouch is one of us now so lets try and get behind him! Harry's really known for long ball football isn't he?
Crouch is known to be amazing in the air isn't he?
We had some great strike partnerships at the club yesterday didn't we? Defoe & Keane amazing!
Bent & Pav awesome! All combinations of strikers yesterday were just awesome!

All I can say is thank God we have Harry who knows how to put together a balanced team and get the best out of them.
I bet when we're doing well with Crouch contributing, you'll all be pining for a group of mismatched forwards who individually may look great on paper but are nothing in respect of the true nature of football as a team game.

Very short sighted and only interested in hero worship, most of you.

8th is a disaster for the first British club to win a European trophy.

Tottenham have won more trophies than Chelsea.

Tottenham won more European trophies than Arsenal or Chelsea.

The media may have forgotten the glory of our club. Let's not forget ourselves.

Coming 5th is not good enough. Thank God our board still recognise that.

That is why Jol was sacked.

11:55 - What are you stupid or deliberately picking and choosing wrong stats. Francis wasn't sacked for 7th, that team was taken apart and replaced with a load of crap and he lost the plot. Also just to put the cherry on the cake, 8th lat season was an outstanding achievement and he's points to games ratio would have seen us 5th overall and pretty close to 4th. Still people only remember the history they want to.

11:56 you clearly don't understand the concept of 'team' when you believe Defoe and Bent would have been a better pairing for the team.

Anyway I'm done with all you whiny little bitches.

I can't stand these idiots who accept Tottenham performances whatever happens - who think it's okay for Tottenham to come 8th.

"Just get behind the team." NO! We don't keep smiling and cheering when the team are in the bottom half of the league.

Idiots like that would happily let Tottenham fall into the Championship.

Imagine Man U or Liverpool were 12th - you think they'd still be smiling and cheering like a bunch of mindless West Ham fans?

No, there would be protests and riots in the streets!

Every Spurs fan who smiles and cheers when we go up to Wigan and lose is an enemy of the club.

Because they suck the media crap that Spurs are inferior.

This "Top 4" crap is a five-year-old phenomenon in a history of English football that spans over a century.

ARSENAL FAN!

Dave of Saffron Walden in Essex is an Arsenal fan in disguise.

I myself regularly post anonymously on Gooner sites saying:

"how rubbish we are" and how
"we're not as good as the top 3" and how
"Wenger is passed it" and
"how we have to accept that we are not as good as we once were" etc

I do it to depress the Goons, so I recognise it when someone does it here.

Don't pay him any attention.

Well we are around the 5th most successful club and we aren't on the same playing field as the top 4 mostly. We can only hope for a good blend and a good manager again that is given the time to do something special. Sadly some of us and the board will labor constantly for 4th by making all the wrong choices and undermine us all. THAT'S why Jol was sacked for chasing an impossible dream.
When we're 14th you all dream of top half, when we're 10th you all dream of top 6, when we're 5th you all dream of 4th. It will never end and if we win the league you will all dream of champions league glory and when it doesn't happen you'll just turn on the manager and again be unsatisfied unless everything is perfect forever.
Whilst 'reality' passes us by nobody will ever actually get the chance to build anything decent as the grass is always greener for you and our board.
Honestly this obsession with 4th place is the reason we will never get back within a REAL chance of a place 'amongst' the top clubs in the country.

STRATTY says:

Harry achieved top 4 standard - i.e. 1.8 out of 3 points over the course of the season.

That would pan out as 69 points.

Average 4th place is 66 points.

So we can only assume, with:
* Ronaldo gone

* Chelsea and Liverpool static

* Arsenal collapsing

* City's absent defence/midfield

* Spurs' steady improvement

...that Harry has a good chance of achieving 4th place.

He's already done it!

Don't worry about Crouch - he works well with Defoe :-)

Actually, the seasons we finished 5th, Keane and Berbatov scored 45 goals in all competitions between the two of them.

Each of them just barely broke 20 goals in all competitions.

The last person to even come close to slamming in 30 goals for us in one season was Sherringham.

Over the last few years I have gotten jaded with this great club that is Tottenham Hotspur.

But its not the club, chairman or manager thats jaded me.

Its the so called "fans" of this club.

They are the ones in my opinion holding this club back.

We act like Crouch isn't good enough for us and we should be signing fucking Ronaldo or Eto or something, too many of you have your heads up your arses.

Our fans are like Newcastles, deluded.

Crouchy is a great signing he adds that something different that we lack up there.
And he is a player you know will give his all for the shirt, unlike strolling Pav.

I just don't get it, he is now a Spurs player so get behind him ffs!

I agree that spurs fans are deluded but I'm not sure it's the signings we should be worried about I think it's the tactics or system or should I say the lack of a system that should worry us. On Friday I was amazed how Barcelona's reserves moved the ball about while we stood stared and gave the ball away at every chance. and guess what??? Barca were playing simple football triangles...

I think this is a good signing and if reports are true that we are getting crouch for 9m and offloading Bent for 15m, then I take my hat off to Dan Levy, that is a good bit of business as it leaves some cash to spend. I think Crouch will work with Defoe and Keane as they both need a bigger guy to run off of.......One more thing is the fact that reports state that Crouch told Hart that he only wanted to come to us so as far as I am concerned he is a yid through and through!

What annoys me is people coming on here and saying were wrong for voicing our opinions, and having a go cos we believe were a decent club that should be pushing for top 4. We dont think we sud be signing "fucking ronaldo or etoo" but crouch is not a good player, theres a reason why hes been at a club like pompey. That being said, he is now a spurs player and i agree we have to get behind the player. As much as i want us to break into the top 4 i cant see it happening this season, yea man u hav lost great players, chelsea liverpool and the arse are doin nothin, but someone mentioned man citys defence, but what bout ours, ours is shocking, our full backs are awful, are centre backs are good if we can keep them fit, but they are very injury prone which doesnt help. Also, i cant see why everyone goes on about lennon, he did improve a lot as the season went on but he still cant cross. I think theres still a lot of work to be done at the lane before were capable of pushing into the top 4, but who knows hopefully i wil be proved wrong. COYS!!!!

honestly, i doubted this signing when i first heard about it. but then i thought about why we need a player like him, researched his tactical role within a team and i believe we can use him. bent was not the answer. too lazy! defoe needs a partner who can cause unrest with a defense.

i just started a new blog and i have a few posts that i would love everyone to check out about the bent issue: ibleedhotspur.wordpress.com
