Bassong almost done

As revealed by The Shelf at the end of June, Spurs have finally followed up their interest in Bassong from Newcastle and, according to Sky, he has passed a medical and a fee has been agreed with "The World's Best Club". How "The World's Best Fan's" are likely to see this departure is unknown.

I hope it won't be too hard to complete personal terms as Bassong is currently on a reported £5000 a week. Either he is stupid or has the world's worst agent to be paid such a low amount.

Bassong comes from the Clairefontaine academy along with the likes of Anelka, Gallas, Henry and Louis Saha so let's hope he was sick for the "Stroppy, spoilt child" part of their training.

Seriously, Newcastle fans rate him highly and have said he didn't do much wrong considering the rest of his team mates were imploding around and will provide good cover for King and Woodgate. I doubt Dawson will be going anywhere at the minute as it is possible Dawson and Bassong will be the starting pairing against Liverpool but if Bassong establishes himself Dawson could well be going in the future.

Bassong is suspended for the first two games and in the not too distant future, if this story is true, Bassong and Dawson may well be th first choice CB pairing, given the geriatric health of our current first choices.

Newcastle signed him for £500k and we pay how much? £10m?
Palacios cost Wigan what £1m, we paid £14m or something.
Bentley cost Blackburn £3m, we paid £15m.
The Kyle's cost Sheff Utd zilch, we paid £8m or so.
Do the same maths for Corluka, Hutton, Gomes, Bale, Modric, Bent and it's quite clear what our policy is. We should try to get players in younger and train them to be good players, we keep buying semi-established players at ridiculous prices because we think that's the only way to compete

Dawson wont be starting against liverpool he has a tendon problem and will not be fit, if we do sign bassong, and he is suspended then i expect king and one of either charlie or chimbonda, if he is still at the club, to deputise as centre half.

Berba cost Spurs £11m and we sold him for £30.75. Similar situation with carrick!

We also gain from the transfer system so there is no point in looking at how much a player costs!
