Tottenham Fans say No to Stratford

With Levy started to make it look like that our proposed move to Stratford could actually come true we need to start building our opposition.

The Facebook group set up to oppose the move now has over 700 members and we need to build this number. If you want Spurs to stay in Tottenham please join the group as it will be an easy way to contact people if we find it is necessary to demonstrate etc against the move.

Levy currently seems determined to put balance sheet over history and fans views. It is the fans that make Tottenham Hotspur - we are not Stratford Hotspur.

There is also a petition to sign.

I live closer to Tottenham than I do Stratford but due to Tottenham's awful transport links I can get to Stratford far quicker!

How many Tottenham supporters actually live in Tottenham these days?

If the club want to move forward then we should move to Stratford, if we want to remain as we are then we should remain in Tottenham.

I know where I'd rather be in ten years time.

Move with the times spurs fans. Stratford offers fantastic transport links, a potentially bigger stadium, a centre piece arena known across the world and is cheaper. Don't be narrow minded and I travel in from reading every game

People say that Stratford has better transport links. What I don't think they realise is, because of where people do come from, they will all converge on Liverpool Street. It will be mayhem. Also, the current stadium has no food or drink outlets and no corporate facilities. To knock down or transform an existing stadium to the extent that Spurs want/need to, really isn't worth it.

Spurs need to stay in Tottenham

I understand why the club prefers to move to Stratford.
It would lose some supporters and no doubt gain some new ones.
HOWEVER, if it's no longer in my neighbourhood then it's no longer MY local club and I will not make the trip to Stratford.
So I will be one of the supporters it loses (after 44 years!).

The transport links are phenomenal as you say from Liverpool st but also kings cross on the main line plus jubillee and central lines. For spurs to remian in tottenham they have to get the tube extended and it won't happen.

to the above post: if you cant travel another 4 miles down the road, i question your support. I as many spurs fans i know love the club not the neighborhood and want them to be the best again. staying in tottenham will limit the success to mid table at best, if thats what you want then stop thinking we should be beating the lesser teams. if you truly want the best for your club then moving 4 miles down the road to an unbeleivable site with all the facilities, exposure, prospects and scope for the world to view, not to mention AEG, then the olympic park is the way forward. Fans need to be realistic. we follow spurs for the club history, tradition, football style, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TOTTENHAM. ITS THE CLUB WE LOVE. im for the olympic site because it will enrich us and lift us back to the heights we all desire. 'to dare is to do' stick to the moto and trust levy.

cant believe some fans want to move because of transport links..do you think you will be able to drive your car into a car park next to the ground, straight of a train where you will have a seat? get real. wherever there is 50000 plus fans its gonna be busy and will still take you time to get home. were called tottenham for a reason and i just love that walk down the high road towards the ground..tottenham to stay in tottenham

Forward the clock 5 years we have moved to the Olympic stadium one of the biggest grounds in Europe , easy to get to games, west field centre, local bars and restaurants, we will be the envy and prime investment material

Hilarious, 700 members on facebook but prob 700 positive comments here. I'd still support Spurs where ever they moved because I love my club. I'd hate to see Spurs go down the petty self implosive root which leads to a "Tottenham AFC" like Wimbledon and Man U. At the end of the day all options are complicated and Spurs would love to stay in Tottenham but if they cant for the million reasons which seem to keep cropping up then look at other options which enable the team to grow.

I dont live anywhere near Tottenham or Stratford or even London for that matter and as a Spurs Fan i travel to WHL whenever i can.. it would be far easier for me to travel to Stratford. COYS!!

I think as many Spurs fans support moving to Stratford as don't . The pro stay in Tottenham brigade must look at the bigger picture . Spending more money to remain at WHL with a potential smaller capacity , worse transport links whilst taking on more debt meaning less investment in the team sounds like the wrong choice to me . The geezer who says he loves walking down the High Road needs to get a life ! Moving to Stratford would take us to a different level . The Board are also suggesting knocking down the stadium and building a purpose made football stadium so no compromise there . I have feeling this will happen . Let's get behind the Startford bid COYS

Move on. To challenge we need to broaden our horizon. The days of supportin your local club are long gone. This gives us the chance to compete world wide, when right now we are the third most successful club in our town. Well done Mr. Levy for thinking so big.

10:05 PM, November 18, 2010

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Protests you say against the Tottenham Board looking at the bigger picture - get a life . They are not damaging our club like previous protests against Scholar, Maxwell, Sugar even Save the Shelf! Levy is investigating what is best for Tottenham whilst not burdening us with debt. Your campaign is unfounded and not in the interests of the club just the small mindness of 700 to date.

10:15 PM, November 18, 2010

I'm all for tradition but spending 400-500 million building a new stadium could set us back 10 years just when we appear to be about to make the big breakthrough. Please take a look at all the clubs who have overstreached themselves building new grounds & observe many were relegated soon afterwards due to lack of funds for the 1st team. Next time you are in Tottenham have a good look around as many supporters must be wearing rose tinted glasses, the place is a dump & always will be. The future is Stratford & I for one am all in favour.

i find it offensive when people tell me i "have"to stop spurs move to stratford or i"have"to agree to spurs move to stratford...at the moment spurs are handicapped by how much we page a salary to our top players..its not just champions league thats a draw card to getting top players its also salaries that attract top players and that also applies to most other businesses if you pay top dollar you get the best...so if moving to stratford meant signing players like? eto? then it makes sense economically and for the long term future of tottenham hotspur football club...coys

How funny that someone write this expecting everyone to jump on the anti Stratford bandwagon when infact most spurs fans see the sense in it! I was born in Enfield and have since moved to hertz, surrey and now hants so it's my club for life not just because it's local!

But I couldn't give a shit about that. I support TOTTENHAM Hotspur. That counts for something.

To all the wannabe Stratford Hotspur fans, why don't you fuck off and support West Ham?

1:14 AM, November 19, 2010

@anonymous 8.35:

You question whether a Tottenham Hotspur fan is a real fan if he won't support the club if it travels 6 miles down the road to a different borough and different area of London.

I question whether you are a real fan if you have so little regard for Spurs' history, roots and identity.

You're just a typical, plastic.

BSkyB generation.

If, as anonymous 9.50 suggests, Spurs were to knock down the Olympic stadium and build a proper football stadium, from scratch, that is bigger than the current proposals for the new stadium at WHL, then Spurs would be far more in debt than if they stayed in Tottenham and built their new stadium at White Hart Lane. Duh!

So what would be the point, exactly? How would that help Spurs to compete?

1:23 AM, November 19, 2010

Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's quite obvious that the majority of posts written in favour of the move to Stratford have been written by the same person (they all have the same tone and use the same sort of language).

That person is probably a gooner cunt......which is all the more reason why Spurs absolutely shouldn't move away from Tottenham.

In the flesh and on proper message boards, where people can't masquerade as a series of different people, you'll find that a good 50% of Spurs fans are totally opposed to a move to Stratford and most of the rest would only accept a move in the direst of circumstances.

1:32 AM, November 19, 2010

Anonymous Anonymous said...

One other point that the pro Stratford brigade have overlooked:

If, as promised, Spurs knock down the Olympic stadium and tear up the track, they would be contractually bound to build a new athletics stadium elsewhere.

Bang goes any saving they might have made from not building in Tottenham.

1:38 AM, November 19, 2010

Stratford. Total and utter shit hole. Perfect for Tottenham!

2:40 AM, November 19, 2010

Anonymous Anonymous said...

the comment that spurs will be more financially stretched if they knocked down the olympic stadium is rubbish. They need to knock down WHL and buy up property / land in the area (most already brought) then build a stadium and transport links. At the olympic stadium there is no land price, the foundations are in place so too the transport links and then they sell WHL to a developer meaning the Olympic stadium will be cheaper.

@ anon 7.01:

Reconfiguring the Olympic stadium (to include a new roof, corporate facilities, toilets, food outlets etc) has been estimated, by West Ham, to cost £150 million. It would be £200-250 million for Spurs because they have committed to tearing up the athletics track, digging down and building a lower tier so that the stands would be nearer to the pitch.

On top of that, Spurs would be contractually bound to build a new, state of the art, 25K plus athletics stadium at a likely cost in excess of £100 million.

In addition, Spurs would have to pay a hefty annual rent plus a percentage of any ticket sales for attendances of more than 36K.

Spurs would also have to share any stadium rights deal with the owners of the stadium - that wouldn't be the case if they built their own stadium in Tottenham).

Sure, Spurs would have the proceeds from the sale of WHL to help pay for the move to Stratford. But remember that Haringey council will not be in the mood to do Spurs any favours. So Spurs would have to sell the land without planning permission. And with the football club gone (and therefore any hope of major regeneration), the land at WHL will not be worth very much.

By contrast, if Spurs were to stay in Tottenham, they would have the profits from the supermarket, housing and hotel to help pay for the stadium.

So quite apart from the betrayal of history, roots and identity, even the financial argument in favour of a move to Stratford is far from clear cut.

Tottenham fans are rallying to oppose the proposed move to Stratford, emphasizing the importance of preserving the club's deep-rooted history and connection to its Tottenham home. The sentiment is clear: Spurs' identity is intertwined with its origins, and moving would compromise the essence that fans cherish.
