Spurs Vs. Charlton review

Spurs slipped to their 4th straight league defeat but there were far more promising signs in the 2nd half than has been shown in recent weeks.

Spurs started poorly offering very little. Balls were going sideways or backwards as the lack of movement up front meant Charlton were always on top. Pamarot had what was possibly his worst game in a Spurs shirt. After being useless last week he became even worse. He sat back on the first goal allowing a cross to be put into the box which he could of easily closed down. Bunje over on the other flank was also poor but not as bad as Pamarot. I think it's time Ifil was given another chance as Pamarot just seems to be getting worse and worse. Tarrico should also replace Bunje unless Edman returns. King and Naybet had ok games at the back. Naybet was much better up from than he was at the back tho when he was thrown forward to win the high balls. Robinson couldn't do much about any of the three goals and actually passed the ball out to the defenders much more than usual. Davies was atrocious and that's being polite, not once being able to beat his man and repeatedly squandering possession. The 2nd half couldn't come quick enough and the team were rightly booed off.

Jol made a change at half time and brought on Ziegler in place of Davies. Keane became a free man and was far more effective than before half time. Unfortunately we let in a third goal early on and I had visions of us collapsing before the fans started calling for Levy's head. However we showed a lot of spirit. The hopeless Redknapp was replaced by Carrick who helped to turn the game. He was very good with surging forward runs from the midfield which is something we have definitely been missing. Kanoute hit a post before a goal mouth scramble which led to Bartlett handballing the ball on the line for a straight red card. Keane converted the penalty and it was game on. Spurs then camped out in the Charlton half for the rest of the game. Defoe scored a brilliant goal with 11 minutes to go and we should of had another penalty in my opinion when Naybet was sandwiched by 3 Charlton defenders. Defoe looked like he was about to score at the death but a great block saw the shot fly over the bar.

The team were actually applauded off because they showed some fighting spirit. If Spurs had been a bit better defensively we would of murdered Charlton but it wasn't to be. What was important was that the players can play for the shirt when they want to. I hope when Jol is appointed on Monday that he gives them a right rollicking and a kick in the right direction so against the Scum and other opponents we play for the whole 90 minutes and not just 30. If we can do that we will definelty approve on our poor run of late.

Come on you Spurs!
