Results goes our way.
Bolton's chances of catching us took a big blow tonight when they lost 1-0 away to Birmingham. I also heard that they have now failed to win away from home in 2006, a stat that bodes well for our European qualifictaion aims.
Blackburn were only able to take a point on Monday to Wigan and their equaliser was a joke so it could have easily been defeat. I feel that a win against Citeh and a couple of other results going our way could see us put one foot into Europe next season. Of course weather that is CL or UEFA cup remains to be seen.
COYS!

If we win and they lose Saturday, then we are certain to be in the UEFA Cup next seaso.
Hopefully with this secured, the pressure will be lifted from us, and we can make a real charge for 4th knowing weve definitely got European football next season

armchair gary we are walking on something ever time we go down so dose the others are we ment to get 4th which ever cl eu im glad were makeing a good season of it lets get mideo singed up as soon as posss go on you spurs

We have more quality than either bolton or blackburn and should any way finish higher than them over the course of the season.
But that still do not that away the sickening taste the way we collaspe over at St James Park.
We are like a bunch of girls when brave hearts are needed. The girls are people like Carrick,Gardner and Jenas.
Bravehearts is btw what teams like Blackburn has in abundance.
2:43 AM, April 05, 2006
The youthfulness of our team is one reason why we played so abysmally in the first half last week. Blackburn, bolton have more experience and physical strength and aggression, BUT we are a better team in terms of ability. If the two lancashire team's confidence takes knocks like it is doing at the moment then we should be fifth at the end of the season. BUT BUT, NOTHING is for sure yet. Alot depends on how we respond against a Man. City that also underperformed last weekend.
It is in the balance.
My guess:
1. Chlski
2. ManU
3. Liverpoo.
4. Arsenal (sorry)
5. SPURS.
6. Blackburn
7. Bolton

Mr Thomas, just a couple of 100 yards away a great young team beat Juve,Real Madrid and Liverpool recently. While we are play off the park by a struggling Magpies.
While Febregas shone againts Juve, Carrick and Jenas go into hiding and feet turn cold when history and greatness are beckoning.
The way I talk, you might think I'm a gooner fan... well no... I'm a spurs fan for 30 years.
It's just hurting to see the other side keep producing players of that calibre while our best keep falling away at the fianl hurdle.
3:59 AM, April 05, 2006
The way I see it is like this. I really hope we finish 4th, That would make this season out of this world, amazing!
However if we finish 5th we will still have had an excellent season and in my mind be restored to English football as one of the big 5. The others obviously being Chelsk, ManUSA, Liver and Arses, Which lets be fair, we have not been able to say that for about 15 bloody years!
Even 6th would have been a good season and progress made but would have been a bit of a shame cos like others here, I really dont think that Blackburn or Bolton have the same quality as us, but do agree where they lack in quality, they make up for it in heart. We are not as heartless as some people are claiming though, as only 7 defeats proves that we have been a stubborn team to beat this season.
I feel we have strangely for a Spurs side just lacked a bit in the flamboyance department in being able to skillfully rip teams apart. Not that we have played bad football cos we are a good passing team, just lack the killer touch sometimes. Hopefully that will be addressed with some signings for that flair we are missing.
But any way, its far more important to get that fighting and winning spirit mentality before showing your flair which I feel Martin Jol is bringing on well in the early days of what seemed a very difficult project when he took over from that waste of time Jaques Santini. Credit to Levy too for backing up Jol with his passion to bring back the glory days.
You know what lads, I think we are at the start of something great here. Sorry to go on but dont forget that this season we have virtually a new team from the one we had last season with little time to gel...thats fantastic! Conrats to Jol and Levy on that one...COYS!
Vinny.

i would love us to buy a quality skillfull play maker like alex from fenabache
4:33 AM, April 05, 2006
I want us to sign Graverson from madrid and that alex from psv i really dont see to much need for another striker just looking to piss off defoe
4:36 AM, April 05, 2006
Excellent post Vinny you master of perspective. I wish most fans saw things similarly instead of the over-emotional negative rubbish far too many posters apply whenever we succumb to a rare loss.
Thanks.
4:41 AM, April 05, 2006
Lol thanks anon 4.41am. At the end of the day we all love our Spurs and its hard not to get over emotional after any loss, not just the Newcastle defeat. But when our emotions calm down, I truly feel you would have to be an idiot not to believe and appreciate that we are heading in the right direction under MJ and Levy after all those painful years of hurt and humiliation. Im confident I am just one of the majority of fans who believe in that "perspective".
Vinny.

Aint it just the greatest game in the world.
5:14 AM, April 05, 2006
Haha! nice one anon 5.04am. Hey has anyone noticed that Kanoute has been one of Sevilla's top scorers this season. Cant help wondering at times that as a back up striker to Mido, he could have nicked us one or two more points this season that may have made all the difference to getting us champs league and hence the financial rewards of that would have more than made up the transfer fee we got for him. He has certainly been worth 4.4 million for Sevilla.
However we must keep faith in our MJ, there are reasons behind all the difficult decisions he makes.
Vinny.
5:20 AM, April 05, 2006
We tend to think as fans everything is nice and rosy in the club and players are like chess pieces that could be manipulated.
The recent ugly spat between Brown and Davis is one example why egos and personalities are also part of the equation why players are let go...sometimes much to the frustration of the fans.
Kanoute is a great striker that became settled in Seville. We let him go not for footballing reasons.
8:28 AM, April 05, 2006
Graveson...yes great choice to succeed Davids.
I don't think Carrick and Jenas in the same team give us the correct balance..not at the moment anyway.
8:30 AM, April 05, 2006
Anon 8.28. I understand that Kanoute fell out with MJ over missing important Spurs games plus his non attendence to a friendly tournament. Also it was stated at the time of his sale that 4.4 million was good for a 28 year old. True but if we re-invested that 4.4 million in another striker we wouldn't even get anyone as good as Kanoute.
Brown, Davis, Mendes etc did not add anything different to the team and were rightly sold as surplus to our requirements.
Kanoute added something positive and different to the team in his link up play and some important goals, even though he did look lazy. May have been good to hang on to just for this season to lets say to have helped us achieve champions league. However I appreciate MJ is not psychic and probably did not foresee not being able to find an adequate replacement for him so took a sound financial deal for him.
But hey, no use crying over spilt Milk. Vinny.
9:34 AM, April 05, 2006
I really really hoped davids would be that midfield battlecruiser that we've been without for years and years. whoever said about being young and lacking agression etc, shurely if hte players are young and want to do well they shud B MORE agressive and battleworthy :(
but neways, digression: - davids has often played well this season but hasnt been wat we need - many of the recent great teams I can think of have been effectively built on a usually (but not essentially) skilful, midfield rock. that we dont and havent had for many years :( keane at man u, that cunt V**** at the scum, even smith trying to adapt to that role at man u, makelele at chelsea, even gerrard at liverpool, guardiola at barca (now xavi) etc etc etc. they've essentially all done the same, simple job, + had skills and talent as well. basically carrick but with 2 balls and a decent attitude! i hope there is someone we can sign that will shure us up, its like look at toss teams like blackburn - if savage is on the pitch and having a decent game you can never rite them off, cos he busts his balls to do watever he can to put his team bk in business, watever it takes. we dont ahve that cutting edge. so yes, i wud love to see a good CM signing...
come on you spurs. need 3 points on saturday :)
12:14 PM, April 05, 2006
i agree with ppl who say that when brave hearts are needed.......carrick and jenas mainly go missing! they are both good players but that is it...never will they be great, how long have they played in the prem.........almost 5 years!! they havent improved a bit for me! lennon has played only 2/3rds of a season........hes the one that can earn the namke as great for me. same goes for dawson.
2:21 PM, April 05, 2006
I agree with the last 2 comments that to step up a bit and improve we need a traditional holding player who can not only distribute the ball nicely, but has also got to be hard like steel in a tackle and have balls in a midfield scrap.
Millasur gave some good examples. In the late 80's it would have been people like for the great Milan side Frank Rijkard or Carlo Ancelotti. Graeme Souness, Steve McMahon were great ones for the scousers. In more recent times Roy Keane for the Mancs. Those midfield generals are very hard to find though.
I have felt at times cos of the lack of one these kind of players we have had to back up Carrick with 2 and sometimes 3 other defensive midfielders - Davids, Jenas and sometimes Tainio too when 2 super solid midfielders should do. Besides Carrick is too deep to be considered a playmaker, so why should he not have to tackle? It's still early days yet, lets be proud of what theyve done so far instead of panicking and getting on their backs.
Overloading our midfield with defensive players has mostly made our midfield solid enough though, lets face it we are 4th in the prem!. Just a shame that this has been at the expense of flair players, although we have only got one that has truly performed this season - Lennon, so that might have something to do with it too.
As Spurs fans we want all!...now lets bring in that Midfield general, those flair players, a LB, LM, RB, back up centre half, and a world class striker, we dont want much honest MJ and DL! hahaha.
Vinny.
6:52 PM, April 05, 2006
Huddlestone is our future in that position not Carrick. Jenas will either develop into a top 4 thrusting midfielder ('creative' would be pushing it) during next season in uefa or he'll be relegated to back-up and someone else brought in. We'll buy a very useful but not top drawer big striker and left winger in the summer along with a decent right back. We'll finish 5th or 6th this season which is what we hoped at the start and good enough for MJ's first full season in charge and probably finish 5th next season too with a very good chance of winning the uefa cup second time around.

Why doe every body keep going on about a left sided player when have got Lennon he both foot for crying out load get him on the left and Routledge on the right.
And as for a right sided full back play jenas there until the end of the season we looked great with him there against WBA. We have more quality midfeilders than defenders so why not play quality rather than based on position ManU seem to get away with it why not us. So much for ducth total football at the lane.
O another solution is Jackson as left back and play lee on the right. Sorry but Kelly is good but not good enoght at the moment keep as back up or sell him.
Huddleston from what i have seen of him is far better than Gardener versitle strong and above all inteligent.
We should be be getting more out of our squad and our youngsters.
New striker what about Barnard why is the answer throwing money at the problem.
I feel that Jol is somteime to over cautious by playing players based on reputation and not on form.
I would love to see all our youngsters play against arsenal and i bet we would win.
GK-Robinson
LB-Lee.y
CB-King
CB-Dawson
RB-Jenas
Lennon
Taino
Carrick
Routledge
Keane
Defoe
Bench
Huddleston,Davids,Mido,Murthy,Ziegler.
What do you Reckon then?
8:36 PM, April 05, 2006
Talkin of youngsters, just watching the young scum give nothing away against Juventus in the 1st half (hoping they will lose of course). Bloody depressing.
Agree that Jol could have used more of the squad than he has. Although we dont see training, so who knows, he may just not rate some players as much as others, or may not be ready yet.
Dont think he will experiment with players out of position this season while trying to cement Champs lge or Uefa cup. Would be good to see him experiment in pre-season.
Plus we do need to get a couple more world class additions as we have some young players with "potential". We need to buy one or two proven winners (hopefully world class)to add to that mix to continue progressing.
9:06 PM, April 05, 2006
As a Spurs fan...!
I find you can't please some people....! I've read so many "put-downs, negative comments" its unreal, as though we were having another mid-table season!
Can you imagine our position if those "six" games where we dropped points in the last min's went our way...?
The season has been fantastic so far, and so may it continue - for once in a very long time we have "begun" (Still growing)the needed change - to finally build a team filled with "YOUNG BRTISH TALENT" we should all be proud of, a team who will have the "POTENTIAL" to be challenging for titles and silver wear.
Can you imagine the make-up of the England squad in 5 years - think about it guys!
So let's forget the negatives and concentrate on the "positives" 4th, 5th or even 6th - I'm not to bothered because i can see a change on the horizon, so believe me when i say
"THE BEST IS YET TO COME"
(Come-on you SPURS)

11.00pm
I'm with you all the way. Don't understand the comments before? Jol has done nothing but play people out of position all season. Lennon, Davids, Tainio, Jenas to name a few.
And Huddlestone for Gardener? Huddlestone's not a centre back. And Lee should never play on the right, he's not all that on the left. And Barnard? Ok, hands up who seriously thinks Barnard will ever make the first team in any premiership team?

Great win against city. Stalteri had a great all round game so did Gardener. The midfield looked much better balanced. Good to see Edgar on the bench. Reckon/hope he goes in the summer. Mido I can take or leave. If we keep him I expect him to play 2nd fiddle to whoever we buy after the world cup. He looked sluggish & overweight. That run from Lennon reminded me of Gazza in his pomp. CL or not CL? the manure & arse*** games will tell. Toffees next. We need to be organized and aggressive.
Go on the Spurs!
10:34 AM, April 09, 2006
I think Jol is considering discarding Mido altogether, thats why the contracts talk could not be concluded and I think Mido is a bit unsettled by that.
Don't be conned by Jol's comments about wanting Mido to stay.He is a very shrewd chap.
If we get into CL,there are strikers who we can possibly buy who IMO is equivalent or better to Mido; Hasselbaink, Viduka, Lua Lua
2:55 AM, April 10, 2006
Just as a discussion, I think the reason we ae tighter in defence last season than the current b'cos of the central midfield pairing we had before.
With Davis and Mendes are tigerish players who swoop for the ball. With Carrick and Jenas, we might be better on the passing department but we sacridice that for agression, anyone agree ?
6:32 AM, April 10, 2006
i tink mendes has always been solid for us, and his goals speak for themselves over the past weeks. he can take free kicks too cant he? too late now neways, he was offloaded. he is old tho which is probly why MJ's gone for the players we have.
on saturday i thought we were good. gardner played well, thankfully king was well back in business, lee had a fairly good game as did stalteri.
keane was so sharp an was good to see him ghettin stuck in at the back, i thought tainio had a good first half an he was clearly knackered wen he got removed, im becoming more of a fan of tainio jus about everytime i see the guy play. we're still lackin in the goi forward / creative department (for watever reason), our only real outlets are into keanes / midos feet, or out to lennon unless jenas pushes thru the middle. stil, thought it was a solid performance where we could of scored many, many more, keane was unlucky and wuda capped his great performance off with a goal if it wasnt for "englands number 4", which im shure he wasnt to happy 2 hear lol. oh carrick made some fairly useful tackles durin the game even tho his work rate dropped off a bit rite at the end, tho perhaps MJ was orderin the sittin bk as is often the case. was nice to see all the results around us goin our way as well!!!
o and goin out on a limb here, i tink lua lua is hte kind of flair player we cud definately benefit from, hes not great but hes one of those that always has ideas + intentions for scoring when he ghet sthe ball which is exactly the kind of thing lennon, keane, jenas and carrick etc cud / wud thrive on. i tink his game wud definately improve as well bein in a spurs side full of quality. also included in the above is bellamy. his 2 goals at the weekend were nothing short of absolute world class.
and to the people complaiin bout negativity, we jus are realists that always want better and look for ways 2 improve, hence hte discussions. the only way you improve is by criticising and discussin?! we're not puttin the team down or attacking players (generally lol) so duno wats stuk up your asses. vinny said it all when he said as spurs fans we want it all! course we do!!! stil, im shure most here wud support us if we were bottom so really wat u complainin about lol.
few tough games 2 go, so cum on tottenham! can almost touch europe!!!!
